Default "etiquette" question related to car transport

hi guys,

i'm not sure which forum to post this question in so hope you're all ok with it here. i sold my '02 996 cab last week and have my new 997 c2 cab arriving tomorrow via covered transport from an out of state dealer.

i was wondering if i should tip the driver. anyone have experience with this or know what's appropriate? should he get a tip, or, no tip? (no pun by the way - tiptronic )

thanks!
david

I'd tip him, even if he appears non-friendly. Just is good Kharma. Also, he goes away thinking not all Porsche drivers are pr*cks.

I had a car delivered, gave the driver a $25 Starbucks card...help keep the guy awake, too. He was appreciative & didn't act like he expected to be tipped.

That's a cool idea.

I don't recommend kicking him in the nads and telling him to move faster. 'Unlike you, my time is important.'

Your car may not come off the truck nice an easy.

Yep, offer him/her a drink at arrival (non-alcoholic). hahaha

Once you have your baby off loaded its appropriate to tip 15% of the total cost of the P-car, NOT! ($10-20 is appropriate)

Congratulations on your new arrival... post pictures of your new baby!

Cheers!

The concept of a gift card is good idea.

Was going to tip $20 until I inspected the car and found a small ding which the driver had failed to note on his inspection when he picked it up. He ended up paying me $125 to get the ding removed.

If the schedule is normal turn and on time or early, the car is taken care off, and they appear professional and clean, then I tip a C note... I've done that twice. When the Z06 was shipped in from Minnesota in January the drivers had done a straight drive from the dealer to my house in 36 hours, so they got a MUCH bigger tip.

I like the idea of a gift card, too. It indicates that you went out of your way to purchase something for them. I like that.

starbucks is a safe bet - or maybe walmart, but that seems a little chintzy for a porsche owner

Good question, Spar10. Not many out here away from the freeway, but once I get near I-70 it seems like we've been invaded-there are Starbucks now at truck stops and interstate service areas in many parts of U.S. Go figure. Enough caffeine to choke a goat, nice young lady behind the counter- what's not to like? appeals to all walks of life! Keep a few in the drawer, give 'em to the snow plow driver, Porsche tech, etc..geez, I should buy some stock.
