Question Guards Red Paint Finish

Does anybody know if Porsche paint is a clear coat type finish from the factory? Specifically Guards Red?

Thanks,

Sorry, I'm having trouble understanding just what you mean.
Do you mean, is it a clear coat sprayed overtop of the paint?

Just to confirm. There is no clear coat on Guards Red, right?

Thanks,

Use a gentle polishing agent such as 3M Imperial Hand Glaze and there will be a faint red colour on the cloth (i.e. tiny amount of paint comes off).

I'm pretty sure the newer cars have a clear coat applied on top of Guards Red. I believe Porsche made the switch in the late 90s. Some 993s did not have a clear coat while some did.

Does anybody know for sure if a new Guards Red car has a clear coat? Zaino has two formulas and I want to use the right one.

Thanks,

Thanks to Deanski's help and my follow up investigation, 3M's IHG is not a polishing agent. Use a swirlmark remover product or other true polish for that test. Sorry if you were mislead by some of my posts regarding the use of IHG. Spoke to a chemist at 3M and posted my findings in another thread.
