Yeah you get it, the big cop-like computer screen and partially-functional buttonage to "manage" all those "communications" which makes a more comfortable center console deletion impossible.

The screen is a PITA. It makes doing simple things cumbersome and really doesn't show a hell of a lot unless you have Nav.
One question I have about NAV is what happens in 30 years? THey'll be all these beautiful cars around with Nav systems. Will they still be supported with software updates? That's why I like my portable. It gets out of date or something better comes along I get rid of the old one. Plus it's half the price.

The scary thing is you can't just remove it: it's apparently so frickin connected to the rest of the car.
That's AN EXCELLENT question about software updates. Will the 2005 PCM be supported by better PCM software? Our current screen DOES seem to have touch screen potential.
I've got touch screen Nav on my other car. It's always full of finger smudges and the coating did wear off on the area where you have to acknowledge that you know driving is dangerous. (Replaced under warranty though). I just wonder why they can't make the screens adjustable like the interior rear view mirror, so that you could position it for better viewing
I'd hope that Porsche (or more correctly whomever makes their Nav unit) will offer regular updates (new CD-ROMs) to keep the Nav current.
I know that Acura, BMW, Lexus, and others do.
Now that I have mastered operating the whole-thing via my multi-function steering wheel, I really like it. You can flip through it really quickly without having to take your eyes off the road for more than fractions of a second. So I'd say: yes, fortunately you will still get it!

If you hate the LCD screen so much.......bid on this...You'll need piwis to activate, but it should drop in right where the current pcm goes (I believe that Japanese 997's can have this option...due to the fact that Japanese prefer the way more sophisticated aftermarket nav units)
Thanks for the input, actually I like the screen and was hoping I would get it without my ordering the Navigation package, I like seeing the FM radio station in big bright letters/numbers, etc..
And agreed with some above posters about nav, I like having a handheld version like Garmon.. Maybe Porsche should have a bluetooth interface for common navigation devices ?
