Sixpack,

I called Michelin USA this week. There are NO 305/30R/19's out yet in Pilot Sport Cups and neither are there any 295/30R/19's as well. They only make the fronts for our cars. Not sure when the rears will be out as they had no clue.

Yeah, the selection of 305 30 R19's is pretty slim from what I've seen which means there won't be any incentive for the prices to dip downward. It looks like about $2000 to replace the stock PS2 tires with the same thing.

Seems like a good justification for 18s to me. I'm curious about the comment earlier about less than satisfactory experiences on 18s for 997s. Intuitively it would seem less unsprung weight, a little more sidewall compliance for running up onto the apex curbing, and most importantly... more choices in brands and better pricing.

Extract of email (below) from Michelin UK, one month ago. Mine are being airfreighted this week. Not surprising that they're avail becos the GT3 wouldn't be released without a suitable tyre.
--------------------------------------

Thank you for your recent e-mail.

Michelin now produce tread pattern 'Pilot Sport Cup N0' in the following
matching front/rear tyre sizes for Porsche 997:

235/35 ZR 19 (87Y) 'Pilot Sport Cup N0' (Michelin stock code:
393626)

305/30 ZR 19 (102Y) 'Pilot Sport Cup N0' Extra Load (Michelin stock code:
084704)

Should you have any difficulty in obtaining stock, please ask the chosen tyre
distributor to call Technical on the 'phone number listed below.

Once again thank you for your interest in Michelin

Yours sincerely

I wonder if an individual could simply order the tires delivered to a US address from England. Evidently Michelin USA doesn't think we deserve these tires.

Michelin Cups in 19 inches to fit the 997 should be available in May according to our local distributor. P 0 Corsa R's arriving now.

Thanks,

Flash: I'll give you an answer. Yes, the 305's will fit on the rear, and you can use your stock 19" x 11" rims. In fact, the new GT3 has 305's on the rear on 19" x 12" rims. (Note: The specs for the 997 GT3 show the same car width, 1808mm, as the 997S.)

I hope this helps out. I will be going to the 305's when my 295's wear out, but I may have to remove the 5mm spacers in the rear, just to be on safe side with clearance.
