Hi gang. Well I finally was able to take the 997S on the track. Did not get as much time as I wanted in it (was an instructor during that event) but what a car! I have been doing these for almost 10 years and have driven mostly BMWs and was curious to see how the 997S was going to handle. Always had that famous 911 characteristic on the back of my mind but nothing happened!!!

One word: Fantastic!

What a car. PSM on or off, Sport on or off and even PASM on or off this car amazed me. Some comments:

- Porsche brakes = there is no substitute! Incredible. BMW could learn a thing or two. 3 sessions of 30 min and no fade. Hot day too...South FL! Great feedback adn could go deeper and deeper as I was getting more and more comfortable with the car.
- PS2 were much better than I expected but do look worn now!
- Get the short shifter!!! especially for track days.
- Engine oil temp was my worry but even with a hot day and pushing hard was between 225-250
- I am going to invest in a dedicated set of wheel/tires for track A must now. Not researched that yet. I love Toyo RA1 but none for our size I think.
- Driving every day I thought the heel/toe would be an issue but found that on the track pushing hard and braking allowed easy heel/toe.

Get this baby out there. Meant for it. Be safe and have fun.

PS: Ferrari had brought 8 F430 Challenge Straddale for testing. WOW! My son (8 years old) ended up working in the pit with them!! He loves Ferraris and they asked him if he wanted to help out...so he did much my chagrin. Oh well! he had a blast. There was also a Carrera GT that day. What a sound!

coming from e36m3 stripped track car with stoptechs, i tell you p car brakes are still MILES ahead of bimmers. btw, when you change the pad on p cars, you will be amazed how easy it is relative to bimmers. THAT ALONE is reason enough for me to dump my M3, though #6 bearing blew up before i sold.

ps2 is a great tire. lot of ppl thought i was on r compounds. but RA1 is better for sure. unfortunately they dont have the right size for you.

though not a 997, i drove my 996c2 at buttonw willow at 107deg ambinent temp for 60 min NONSTOP and did that very often at TH at over 100 deg ambieint temp, it has never overheat and oil temp never an issue.

I agree - the 997S is absolutely a fantastic car on the track! Everyone that rode with me at Infineon wants a 997S now.

As for dedicated track tires, Pirelli is making some Corsas in R compound in the right 19" sizes. Tirerack has them. As far as I know, they are the only R compound tires available, although I did see a 305/30 x 19 Hoosier at Watkins Glen last September, but no listing on their website for it.

I would rather stay with 19" than go to 18", as there have been reports of 18's being less than perfect on the 997.

Let us know if you find any other 19" track tires.

Michelin now doing 19" Cup semi slicks..........they've done the 235 for a while but just released the 305 ............had to really with the GT3 virtually in production

That what I was hoping for the Mich Cup. Saw them on a 996 at the track and the driver swore by them. I will research a bit more to see if there are other options. Will report then.

And these are the standard brakes... WOW! Can't wait to try my C2S when it arrives with the PCCB's on it!

Come up to Sebring June 10th with Suncoast PCA. We should have 3 or more well driven 997 S's there running in the Instructors group. My car is stock with slicks and turning 2:35 which is great. Fast car and fun to drive. Hope to see you there.

Will 305s fit on a 997S that came with 295s on stock 19" wheels?

I am part of the Chin Motorsport club. Been doing this with them for a while. Planning on going to Sebring yes...:P

Tire pressure cold were 34 F and 39 R worked great.

997S X PO BOX 2:35 is good! I ran 2:40 to 2:43 on my 1993 BMW 325is ITS race car. But I had a whopping 215 HP

Sounds like a blast, I heard michelin is coming out with a cup tire in 19" next year.
