i usually don't get caught speeding in the first place. at least sometimes!
it was dark and all i saw was head lights coming and in a 997s on a straight flat road 50 mph is hard to stay below.
i do need to get my drivers license renewed, obviously, but i left out that i also have a dealers license and have a dealer tag on the way.
also that the officer remembered paying a visit to my home for a mistaken emergency call and knew that i had lived in the area for a long time.
he also had told me he would not write me up for speeding b/f the accident call came in but that might have helped with the expired license.
although i do remember that the officer upon leaving me went in the opposite direction of the accident.
i did not act innocent and only tried to be polite and keep the officer smiling.

You were very lucky! But then again, how embarrassing to be pulled over in a PORSCHE for something less than 100! Will you EVER live that down?

Back in 1981 I was southbound on Interstate 5 in the central valley of California. This was back in the 55 mph days. After a considerable amount of time I finally worked my way through a twin-lane pack of cars that were barely moving. I found out the reason,--a CHP sitting in the right hand lane doing about 55. I got behind him awhile and then finally got into the left lane. I slowly crept up even with him. I must have been doing about 56. I looked toward the patrol car,--and in the left rear side window was that "Out of Service" placard! I slowly eased the Porsche 911S ahead, but cautiously, eventually picking it up to a more Porsche-like speed. In time all I saw out the rear window was a long line of headlights far to the rear,--still apparently held up by the "CHP." It must have been another 20 minutes before a BMW came flying past me. Someone ELSE finally broke the code. After that other cars started coming by. It was funny that so many people got held up so long by an out of service Chipper!

well, since the last time was only about 4 months ago and i was doing about 120 (after spotting the hp and slowing down) i've been trying to stay below 100 when i dont have clear foward site. one of the reasons i traded the gt3 as well was no cruise control to keep your speed down on the autobahn . . er . . interstate (and yes! i did get a ticket for wreckless driving but knew the judge who helped me out by dropping it to speeding and not making me appear in court)

i didnt think they ever went off duty for speeders? i've also been stopped but not ticketed by an off duty police officer.

these are some of the reasons why i need to get on the track?

Lucky icon, I believe here in NC they can yank your license (expired or not) on the spot for anything 15 mph (or more) over the speed limit.

What ever the reason, luck, clout or a combination of the two, congratulations on getting out of a nasty ticket icon.

...and yet ANOTHER reason why I'm going for a European delivery,--to help get the speed fix out of my system!

They didn't take mine immediately.... but they could have... and the judge has the ability to pull them for a period of time for any speed in excess of 15 over the posted limit if you plead guilty and actually go to court.

But if you can afford to own and drive a porsche, you can afford a good lawyer.

Yes icon, 15 or over and they "can" take your license. On the other hand (and some North Carolinians need to help me out with the exact verbiage here because I'm basically a transplant), there's something that you can plead (just once) that basically asks the court's forgiveness. If you ran over a gaggle of elderly grandmothers while going 125 while inebriated I don't think that option would be available though.

the ala hwy patrol might be monitoring this site!
a friend was talking to a couple troopers at a gas station and they told him reinforcement troopers have been brought in from other areas of the state to patrol I459 bypass (birmingham's autobahn) for a couple months! just happens to be the route from my home to my office and back!
also the hwy leading to pde if anyone takes their own vehicle!
good thing we got twisty back roads!

p.s. just kidding about the hwy patrol monitoring the site!

Question

Question: Let's say you know a police officer really well. If you get stopped and ticketed by one of his colleagues, could your buddy bail you out by talking to the other officer? Basically, do they do each other favors in this regard? Is it theoretically possible? Or is it: once in the system, that's it.

i cant speak for other areas but as long as your buddy gets to the officer before he turns the ticket in at the end of his shift here - the answer is yes!

That get out of jail free card is a "Prayer for Judgement"... you can use them once every three years... the catch is its at the discretion of the judge to grant it... AND the caveat... is that if you get ANY speeding violation in the next three years... they go back and activate your prior charge which means you get double whammied.

what prompted north carolina to crack down on speeding?
the penalties seem a little severe for the offense!
you have to be doing 25 mph over the speed limit to get charged with wreckless drivng in alabama.
a trooper told a friend today that if they were keeping it at 78 mph or below they would not get stopped in a 70 mph zone. only 7 more mph in north caroline and you not only get stopped but can have your license pulled
do these laws help on your insurance premiums?
