pcar964,
Next time I'm in Florida, or you come to NY, we have to go out and get plastered and argue about sports cars until we pass out, then we'll argue for 15 more min.

what he said.
Guys, if you really want fast, you have to make fast. No one produces real fast for the masses anymore. Z06 is about as fast as anything produced on an assembly line. But assembly lines don't make REAL fast.
I did drive a M-B SL-65 before I went to the Porsche and it is impressive in a straight line, but in truth, almost fast is the best it can do.
Fast takes aftermarket and dineros and expert tuning. But real fast is scary!

the new 997tt hasn't beaten the z06's time around nurburgring.
how is the 997s or 997s x51 going to beat it?

GM doesn't sponsor the magazines. Come on fellas just because you don't agree with a magazine's point of view doesn't mean the magazine is all of a sudden not a valid publication. Be a man and respect a opinion different from yours.

JMTC,
I bought a 911 because I loved the car since I was a child. To me it's beautiful and wonderful to drive. I'm certainly not pushing my C4S to 9/10's going to work everyday.
But let's face it, it's also is exclusivity that makes the 911 what it is. You're are part of a select group of individuals who are lucky enough to own a car worth six figures. It doesn't have to be the fastest, it just has to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up when you drive it.
If you don't feel like a little kid every time you drive your 911, then really why pay for that right? There are many other cars, including the vette, that can get you from zero to sixty pretty damn fast.
My Porsche is very personal to me, and I feel very lucky to be able to own one.
Peace,
Rob

I am surprised at people using the TT as an example as porsche doing something to keep up with the Z06. Yo it costs about 50k more and still doesn't beat it around the ring. Porsche needs to do someting about the engines and their relative lack of power against competition at this point. I did not buy my 911 just to go fast, and there were many factors, but at the same time it needs to be comporable in performance to the competition especially if they want an extra 10-50k out of me to put me into their car over the alternatives.

This might be a good time to remember the recent top gear episode comparing the 997s to the Aston Martin and the M6. This admittedly anti-porcshe outfit reached a pretty amazing conclusion after the Isle of Man driving "shootout"; not to mention in a driving rainstorm.

The real test is what would you drive if you had both in the garage at the same time. I've been in that situation twice with both Porsche and Corvette, and I hate to tell you that i racked up the miles on the Vette. There is no beating power for thrills in daily driving. I love my tt for a lot of reasons, but came within an inch of buying the C5 ZO6. I would certainly get a C6 ZO^ if I was in the market today.
With the Porsche you get a certain "rich sophisticate" factor that is absent from the Corvette which has a "lounge lizzard" cachet. But for covering distance, corvettes are hard to beat. Plus, you have a $100 service bill instead of $1500. The porsche maight be cooler, but the ZO6 is better, if you are looking at the factors that comrprise "sports car". Corvette wins on car factors, Porsche wins on social statement. AS

In December, I traded in a 2005 C6 Corvette (not the Z06) for the my third Porsche (this time a 2006 C2S). Why did I trade in a car I only had for 6 months?
First, I thought that the Corvette (my first) did not have the overall driving feel of the 911. The C6 was fast, but it did not feel like the well-built, tight machine that is a Porsche. Don't know which would win a race and don't care. I drive mine on the road, not on a race track.
Second, the C6 was very cheaply made inside and out (and yes cost half as much as the 911). Take a close look at the fit and finish of the two, and there will be no doubt that the 911 is like a fine watch compared to all aspects of the C6. The C6 felt like a model car that had a big honking engine in it. If you can affored twice as much, why not?
Third, and this reason for me is embarassing. The Corvette people are some of the finest people I have ever met. Down to earth, friendly and helpful. Go over to Corvetteforum.com and see how well versed they are many aspects of cars (not all of them, just a lot of them). They welcomed me rapidly into the Corvette fold. But, at the end of the day, I have to admit that the cache and "rich" feel of the 911 called me back. I really do not like this as a reason to own a car, but being honest, it was an important factor to me.
I am glad I owned a Corvette once, but I am more glad I own a 997 now.
