it's just a way to highlight a detail of the car and add color
just because you don't like it doesnt mean it's stupid.

drbf - Thanks for the kind words! I used Dupli-Color. Here is a link that I started on the 996 Forum which has some info about the process I used.

I agree that the calipers are purely utilitarian, and personally I wouldn't opt to have mine painted another color other than what they came as, unless I had a body color that completely clashed with the reds, such as Mexico Blue. Then I would have them painted black so as not to compete with and clash so strikingly with that color.

PCCB's rock and I would love them whether they are yellow, red, black, green, or purple. But the fact they are yellow is, in my opinion, distinctive.

I think that the powder coated calipers look great but I'd rather put my money towards a nice lip.

yeah, you're right, Sorry. bad choice of words.

What I meant is: it is "dumb" thing that Porsche started doing when you look at it this way:

why not paint the alternator: it's ugly

the wheels are so nice loking, why distract from them?

In a different world, how many of us would choose painted calipers as an option if Porsche didn't start some "mine-are-better-than-yours" BS by starting with different colors?

How about a red mirror?

How about yellow sidemarkers too?

I dunno... . It IS crazy. As long as it's fun too, I guess... .

It's not so much about the fact that they, the calipers, are painted. It's about an opportunity for Porsche to proudly put their trademark name on a performance component known for outperforming other manufacturers'. And every time anyone sees those calipers with the name Porsche emblazoned across them that reputation is reinforced and enhanced, if fear does not exactly strike the hearts of drivers of lesser cars.

Besides, it's a more subtle way of identifying the brand to those who happen to pull up beside you not knowing what kind of car it is, than that garish badge on the fender of those F-cars. ..

Good point. Gotta say I don't mind my red calipers but think the car looks significantly better without them (mine's silver). Too much trouble to change and in combination with the reasons you point to I just have to accept them... .
