I'll let anyone drive it but several friends at work are afraid to.

Quite a few generous 997 owners judging from this poll.

While I think that cars have distinct driving personalities and that my 997 is quite engaging, I view it as an assembly of metal, plastic, glass and rubber. Accordingly, any of my friends and family may drive it. It is meant to be enjoyed.

Same with my track car.

Default Make sure you're a passenger!!!!!!!!

If a guy I know wants to try it and is a car nut I let him drive it. Of course this guy better have some credentials like being my friend, or acquaintence with manual tranny know how, or a PCA member.

Oh, "drive it" is different from "borrowing it."

IMO you'd be a fool to let your car out of your sight! I'm always in the passenger's seat.

You can't trust ANYBODY to not beat the sh*t out of the car when you're not around. (law of the universe)

I agree with both frayed and MMD. I'll let people drive it, but ain't nobody borrowing it.

My car is meant to be enjoyed and I really love to see peoples faces after they've had a chance to drive a car like this -- especially when they have never been in a 911 (or Porsche even) and they can't afford one. I've had friends tell me it was the thrill of their life, and that is what makes this car worth the money. I'd do the same if I had an Enzo or some other rare exotic.

I've let some good friends drive it by themselves recently. They joking said 'where are the keys' when we were at a party, so I threw them the keys and said 'go have fun'. They did not think I was serious but I encourged them to go. I agree with some of the other posters, the car is ment to be enjoyed, I enjoy it every day, and they really enjoyed it when they took it for a spin. (Being a convertable was an added bonus). I agree with the notes above that 'it is just a car', but the bonds of friendship are priceless.

Will certainly let friends and family drive it when I get it in early June. No problem at all with my dad and brother taking it for a spin, whether I'm around or not. Let my dad have my Boxster S for a week while I was on vacation, as a matter of fact. My brother has raced competitively, so he knows what he's doing and really appreciates fine engineering, even if his tastes tend to go toward older, classic cars. My wife won't WANT to drive it - it frightens her. A couple of my best friends will want to drive it, and I'll let them - but only if I'm in the passenger seat.

my wife's in the same camp. she scared to death to drive any of my cars over the years; she's too nervous driving them to enjoy them.

I voted anyone who asks.
It's a car people. It's a materialistic item that can be replaced.
There are way more important things in life than being overprotective about a stupid car.

My wife can drive it when ever she want. My 18 yr old daughter can drive it with permission. She has a 6 speed Jetta. No valets though. Hey, it's only a car.

I'd let any responsible friend, colleague, or family member drive it. In fact, I would encourage this.

I didn't check "anyone who asks" because if a random person off the street asks, I'd just say "umm no".
