Default Driving roads in L.A. area

Could any of you fellow Rennsters suggest any good blacktop in the L.A. Area that wouldn't require too many hours driving just to get there. I'm in the Hollywood area and as such most of my driving involves heavy traffic seemingly day or night. I don't imagine that there are really any empty roads within reach of here, but I'd love to find something that allows me to drive the car a bit harder through a few good twisties. Thanks.

Las Virgines (further north is Kanan) is nice too. Takes you thru a couple of tunnels and lets you out by Pepperdine. Hang a left there and hit the shopping center and grab coffee at Deidrich's, then you can take the PCH back to the 10 if you like. Here's a link that might be of use to you?

Thanks guys, that's a big help. I'm going to take my 993 over some of those roads then do the same in my 997 (when it gets here, that is!).

I grew up in Palos Verdes, excellent roads there all over the "hill". PV Drive North or East all are nice. Take Hawthorne Blvd all the way West then go North to end up in Torrance. Wonderful views as well.

Topanga & Tuna Canyons take me waaaay back. I left there in '69. Is it still as easy to get a good drive in?

A couple of excellent weekday roads where you can have a nice drive and some nice scenery are Angeles Crest Highway and Lake Hughes Road. I would stay away from Angeles Crest on the weekend though. Both those drives are within 30 minutes and are excellent.

If you want a day drive the Lockwood Valley drive is beautiful. You start off 5 North above Gorman and through Lockwood Valley down 33 where you can either go into Ventura or I prefer going through Ojai and back down 154 to 126 and back to 5. Keep in mind I live near the 5 and Magic Mtn so for me makes an excellent drive.

Nice part about Lake Hughes Rd is that it is fairly free if any other traffic!

Not so for the Sant Monicia Range roads

Angeles Forest Highway and vicinity. Through the week there's almost no traffic.

Looging very nice indeed Toomey. The view is great too. I still tend to think the exhaust tips on your X51 car are a different angle then the regular XLF. Is it me??

MJones: Outstanding recommendation! Especially the MHR link. You've just increased my local canyon carving bliss 1000 fold! Can't wait to ride their suggested routes. It is going to be a very fun rest of the year!

If anyone is interested I posted some pics of my canyon carving fun from Monday here --> Fast40th's fun run

And a route I enjoy through Malibu is: from PCH heading North -> Right on Topanga Cyn -> Left on Old Topanga Cyn -> Left on Mulholland -> Left on Stunt Rd -> Right on Schueren -> Right on Piuma -> Right on Cold Cyn -> Left on Mulholland --> and then take Encinal, Decker or Mulholland (depending on the mood) down to PCH.

Be safe and enjoy the great capabilities of your car!

Hey Robert, your third photo is an excellent shot. Is that Lake Hughes or Lake Elizabeth?
