Guards Red/Black Cab
My wife and I saw a Guards Red/Black Cab and she fell in love with the car. In my search to buy a 997 S Cab 6-speed, I have found this combo to be rare on the west coast. I have found only one (no heated seats for the wife). Salespeople have discouraged us from this combo for several reasons:
1. Not a popular color or they would be at more dealerships
2. Poor resale value
3. Red is a color that you would get tired of owning
4. Very personal color such as yellow
For those who own a Guards Red 997, are any of these points valid or are the salespeople just trying to sell what they have at their dealership?

dealers order the popular conservative colors.
and of course they are going to try to sell you what they are paying floorplan interest on before finding a car at another dealer.
guards red is a classic porsche color
i'd get what YOU want!

I agree. I have always loved GR and had a 944 in GR. I am tired of black and silver. Everyone has these colors and I like my cars to be a little more unique. I would consider speed yellow, but the wife doesn't get it. But she loves the red!
BTW, the other color I love on the 997 is Cobalt Blue.

Are the sales people going to pay for it? If so, let them choose the color of the car that you will be driving. If not, get what YOU want and what YOU like, 'cuz YOU are paying for it. The sales people will try to steer you toward something on the lot so they can "move" it.

Red/black is a GREAT combination ...
i have Red withcashemire leather and is very very nice ...
i am not biased ... Yellow and Red are GREAT for Ferraris, Lotus and Porsches. Period.
Now .. Red color is delicated. Wash and Polishing a lot ... but is great ...!
50% of the cars are now silver and people are begining to get tired with that.
I liked a lot 2 years ago .. not much now.
Go for the red ... people get excited with that color.
my car (a humble 993) in pristine condition ,always looked great and nice with this color.
dont hesitate .... enjoy the RED .. !!
DEVIL RED .. !! APPLE RED .. !! SEXY RED !!! PASSION RED .. !!

I can say red is one color that gets attention. I had the same combo in my '69 L-88 Vette years ago.
Last car was a Lexus SC430 with Ecru interior and birds eye maple. Got lots of comments on it. Here's what it looked like.

My first Porsche was a 1999 Guards Red/Savannah Beige 996 cabriolet which I loved. Red was a popular color back then but I will say that nowadays I never see red 997's. My own personal view is that you should get the color that makes you happy since you're going to be the one getting in it every day, driving it and washing it. On the resale side, ultimately you will find a buyer when the time comes, it just may take a little longer than with a more popular color.
I have a 2003 C2 Cab in Arctic Silver. I went to edmunds.com and priced the sell value of my car specifying Arctic Silver and then Red as its color. The result was my car was worth about $20 more in Red. If I hadn't gotten such a great deal on my Arctic Silver car from the dealer at year-end (of course there were no Guards Red cars available then) I would have gotten a Guards Red car. Your dealer is just trying to sell what is available.
I just picked up my first P-car, a lightly used (12,000 km) Guards Red / Black full leather 997 S Coupe. I absollutely love the colour combination, and especially love the fact that red is so rare around here (Ontario, Canada)....go for it!

I have to say that many years ago (and I've been driving Porsches since 1974) Porsches in Guards Red were EVERYWHERE. For some reason as the 911 "matures" the buyers tend to get more conservative, and thus, red has fallen out of popularity. The classic combination of Red with Black fell by the wayside. Today it's one of about 6 different silver metallics that people order. I have seen the 997 body in red and it is gorgeous. Buy what makes YOU happy, and not some Porsche lot pusher at the dealership. That's specifically why I'm ordering a non-metallic blue car (close to blue turquoise) so that I DON'T see myself coming at every corner. The bonus for the Guards Red is that it doesn't cost a bit more! It's a standard color,--but certainly one of the least ordered today.
One note of caution that you already know of....police. Guards Red is literally "Arrest Me Red." You will get a lot of attention which at certain speeds is not ideal. However, if you're mature with your driving and your ability to restrain yourself the red will be an incredible automobile.
Good luck!

Guards Red and Black (or my preference is Sand) is a classic color combination. I think the 997 needs a bright color, and I love the car in Guards! Go for it if that's what you want.
I have owned 2 Red 911s, and have never had a "lower resale" value, although there are almost surely fewer people looking for red cars (although like me they seek them out!) so it may take a little longer to sell it.
There are several Guards red cabs in the SouthEast, so a few dealers (Brumos, Hennessey) actually do order someting besides grey, black and silver.
(Most dealers don't spec their cars right anyway in my opinion, I would not take this as a sign they know the market)
Lastly I have been driving red cars for the last 15 years, and have not found it makes one iota of difference in the likelihood of a traffic ticket. In GA if you're driving brazenly (or recklessly) in any color car sports car or just plain hit a speedtrap at the wrong time, you 're likely to get a ticket.
