Yes, ask me by golly! Chris C said it...Guard's red and black is a classic color combo. I have no clue what your salesmen is talking about. When I talk with folks from dealerships, red is often referred to as "resale red" because it is a high demand color. I also hear "arrest me red," but it is the same idea....red is a classic color for a fast sports car color. I especially think that red suits a cabriolet. All of that said, I do think that various shades of grey are quite classic for 997 coupes, but IMHO, a cab needs something more sporty and fun than grey--red is it dude!
My very first car ever was a 1985 Guards Red on black 944 some 21 years ago( see pic). I loved that car and the color combo. I bought it from my cousin who put only 4,000 miles on it and didn't like how small it was . I think the color combo was great. But keep in mind red attracts attention sometimes the wrong kind, like from the police. I got pulled over more times in that car than in anytime in my whole life of driving
Guards Red over black is a stunning combo. En route to the Hershey (PA) Porsche parade last summer we were right behind a Guards Red/black 997 for about 30 miles...what a clean, clean color combo--great example here >>http://carrera.porschedealer.com/new...ntoryid=205497
...for some reason GR looks way better on 997 than on the 996. My dealer says silver, black, red are his best pre-owned colors. The color usually shows up in photos with more orange than actual.
