GT3 is a true hardcore and much more raw sports car than the more luxurious S...But a 997S X51 with PASM can do a great job of serving up more luxurious ride in the morning on the way to work, and then really let it explode on the way home. That SPORTS button can really turn the car into an animal.

But yea, 415HP sounds really nice and would be hard to pass up. The roads are definitely something to think about as well.

I'd get the Turbo, though I could probably only afford the X51.

The Turbo is going to be one helluva BEAST!

Default For GT3 owners

Is the GT3 less insulated than the regular 997s which means more road noise?

thanks

Although I'm not getting any of them, I voted for the TT, which is a more complete car and better value (relatively speaking). I've never driven a GT3, but a track oriented car doesn't appeal to me as it will just end up sitting in the garage most of the time. The X51 is not a good value at all.

I'd be more concerned with other engine-related issues than the oil system. It's not like people are having oil circulation issues or spinning bearings at the track with the M96/97 motors.

The m96 IS bulletproof, the oil starvation issue is a minor one on 3.4 motors. You'd be hard pressed to break one.

Sorry for touching the third rail. I did not intend to reopen that can of worms.

My Carrera S is a splendid sports car and even - gasp- an excellent GT car. I think the 3.8 is a fine engine. But I am a gear-head at heart and am very pleased that the new GT3 will be a more precise instrument.

Hmm. I owned a 996 GT3, 996 C4S, and 996 C2, have tracked all of them; out of the bunch, gotta pick the 997S as the best overall sports car.

I'm not a fan of AWD or the weight associated with the C4S and the TT (despite the sledgehammer of tq), as the chassis is not as nimble and engaging as the RWD chassis. The 996 GT3 sucks as a daily driver IMHO. The C2 lacks the visceral feel and power of the GT3. The 997S strikes the balance between the two.

Haven't driven, or let alone seen, a 997 TT or 997 GT3, so can't really comment.

In the end: ended up with a 997S as a daily driver, and a purpose built track car for my offroad adventures at the local circuit.

I think this is solid advice - if i F-cked up my gt3 on the track, I couldnt forgive myself

I should get a track car for real racing and then use the x51 for track events as well.

Ty x 1 google for your comments/advice

Thanks,
Greg
