I know of a few guys on the forum that have had PSE installed by the dealer. I'd have it wired, IMO. Allows for the on/off nature of the exhaust sound.

I would assume that the wiring is included in the labor cost, since it is the proper way to install per Porsche. Porsche would not recommend installing the exhaust without the wiring, that is, unless your dealer is simply quoting you the bolt-on labor...which you can just do yourself. Work them on the labor, since it's free to them anyway. (their techs get paid regardless...)

I recall seeing this recently,--including the wiring essentially doubles the labor fees. But, it you want it done right...

You can buy the parts for about $1,800 (Suncoast, Brandywine, others?) (list is $2,391 or so). Dealer labor for bolt on install (no wiring) should not be more than $200-$250 (its a one hour job or less). Full install if you have sport chrono should be 3-6 hours labor, a couple more without sport chrono.

...I think it's high too. You can get the system for about 1900 from certain dealers....3295 is a LOT of money for the exhaust AND labor.

Did you try calling around to a few other dealers in the area?

Damn...sounds expensive, but must be the going price. Just make sure to get lubed up before you head over there...

For that kind of price, would make me consider an AWE or Tubi exhaust. I personally LOVE the PSE, and I wouldn't go aftermarket for the fear of warranty concerns.

It might be worth checking back with your dealer again. Originally I was quoted over $3k...but when they double checked the hrs required they found they had quoted for a 996 which takes 2x as long as fitting pse to a 997.

I had mine done for about $2900. I asked the parts dept at my local dealer to match the best mail order price I could find (~1900). We agreed on $2k. The service dept said it was a 10+ hour job. And I talked them down to about 7 or 8. Someone in this forum or 6speedonline or rennteam posted some official service sheet saying it should take something like 3 or 4 hours. I don't remember the specifics. Anyone?

I had the PSE installed by the local dealer. They did an excellent job and the cost was $582 labor plus about $1800 for the parts. Because I had the exhaust wired in, they installed a new interior combined switch module. It has a button with a double exhaust pipe symbol. This is a part that comes separate from the sport exhaust kit that the dealer originally ordered. The part number for the switch module is 997-613-131-00. Adding the sport exhaust adds an additional enhancement and an exciting other dimension to the sport setting on the car. And the ability to change the noise level is well worth it in my opinion. Too bad about the cost on your end of the country, but switchable PSE is the way to go.

no offense, but i still can't figure out why so many people are willing to spend 2-3k for something that adds nothing to the cars performance.

as far as warranty issues with anything after market that depends on the dealer. there is nothing forcing the dealer to reveal mods made to the car. a lot of dealers will still push claims through for you!

Jeff,

It's the same arguement as to why would someone pick a special color, or full leather, or bose etc.. None of those impact the performance, but do impact the enjoyment of owning a 997. For many of us the sound of the engine/exhaust is top priority and worth every penny. PSE is incredible, it would be my first pick option above any other.
