Default PSE - aftermarket vs ordered

The XRP option for a 997 is about $2,400. How does this reconcile with the following: http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/me...roduct_Code=99 ? Does this include an "on/off" switch? Obviously labor is not included.

The link won't work for me. But allow me to guess that it has to do with the fact that when you pay us$2400 for the option (when car is built) it's gonna be less than aftermarket costs because Porsche gets to "keep" the stock exhaust they didn't have to put on your car? Best to order them, aftermarket is always a premium price.

List price on the parts is $2,371 but they can be bought for less, but you have installation costs. With a discounted parts price as Suncoast has (maybe still a little cheaper from Suncoast or Brandywine on ebay), its still going to cost you $2,400 or more for full install, but less with an install without the switch. If you are ordering a car and want PSE, I would order PSE just for the clean and convenient install.

The markup on car parts is extraorinarily high and almost anyone can easily get 40% off of the list and even with that hefty discount, the wholesalers still make a nice margin. Adding a new exhaust system as a DIY is no big deal, and I can't imagine that the installation charge would be high at any independent dealer. Nevertheless, I agree that I would order it as an option on a new car, rather than add it later to save a few bucks. The good news is that for those who buy used 997s without PSE, it won't cost a lot to add the option.

Not a good guess-PSE parts are 1800 or so, install is 3 hrs. PS Tubi is 2400--anybody compare two? ...and does drone kill you on long trips?

Does it actually take 3 hrs or are you just billed for 3 hrs labor? Experienced mechanics can typically get jobs done in about half of the time quoted on a bill.

NJ Dealer says $2400 installed.
They will not install without switch because Porsche instructions say you must install switch. At least, that is the story from my dealer when i pushed them for a cheaper price without the switch as I prefer loud all the time.
I should say, however, when i compared the PSE side by side to my stock 997S pipes, I was dissapointed that there was not a greater difference in sound. I am now trying to decide which exhaust to get AWE, Fabspeed, maybe just the Fabspeed by pass. anybody have any experience with the Fabspeed by pass only, not their full exhaust system?

Keep the PSE and just add the AWE high flow cats. The aftermarket cats seem to be the biggest gain and will add to the sound

I saw a link with the AWE exhaust and it reminded me of a motorcycle (sort of whiney) - not a 911 sound at all. That may be due to the sound quality of the clip I heard. It's all a matter of opinion, but I like the rumble of the exhaust to "compliment" the engine, not sound different. In other words, I should still be able to tell it's the same car (in this case, a 911) without even seeing it.

I agree. I was searching for a word that best described the Porsche sound, and I can't think of a better word than rumble. Anyway the sound is distinctly Porsche.

Gee, I wonder what Borla exhaust sounds like on a C2S?

I have the PSE ordered with the car on the March production cycle.

For those who live near Danbury, call Charlie in the parts department. I'm having not only the sports exhaust installed with the switch on Feb 23rd, but also the illuminated side guards, and the Evo induction system. They where very reasonable with their the price. Pretty comprable with what has been posted, and they are going to give me a loaner at no additional charge. Can't wait to hear the sound of the new exhaust coupled with the V-Flow induction. Should be nice. Once completed I'll post a review and pics.

Jay: Can you summarize your decision process on the Evo? Do you know anyone with the system?
