Default Do you drive Porsches in Video Games?

As a kid I was never into video games. Sure I played them a little bit at the arcade and when I was at friends, but I wasn't a junkie.

Oddly enough, my passion for cars brought me to the Xbox a couple years ago when I got hooked on RalliSport Challenge on the Circuit City kiosk with a friend. Before I knew it I took the plunge and bought an Xbox and got hooked on Project Gotham Racing and the rest is history.

My current passion is Forza Motorsport (http://www.forzamotorsport.net/) which has been as addictive to me as taking my car out on the track. In fact, it is responsible for my finally making the plunge to purchase a Porsche (I won't repeat the story again here).

I'm wondering, do any of you here enjoy a good car video game?

FWIW, I'm a successful 35 years old and married with kids, so I'm not your typical pimply faced single kid living at home with mommy.

My game of choice is not on your list, Nascar 2004 for the PC. I play with a Momo force feedback steering wheel and pedals. I've always been a video game addict since I was about 10.

I have the XBox too but I use it mainly to play Halo with my son

For those who haven't tried out Forza, I would encourage you to find someone who has it. The 993 GT2 is an absolute blast to drive, as is the 959 and 996 GT3. Here's the full list of Porsches, all of which have been recreated with the help of Porsche and contain recorded sounds of each of the cars:

1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS
1986 Porsche 959
2003 Porsche 911 GT3
2003 Porsche Carrera GT
1998 Porsche #26 911 GT1 Le Mans
1956 Porsche 550 A Spyder
1987 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.3
1989 Porsche 944 Turbo
1987 Porsche #17 962 C
1995 Porsche 911 GT2
2003 Porsche Boxster S
2003 Porsche 3R-Racing 911 GT3 Cup (driven by Mike Fitzgerald)
2000 Porsche #23 Alex Job Racing 911GT3-RS

The car physics rules too. Especially when you are driving these cars on Laguna Seca and the Nürburgring Nordschleife course.

You should be playing this, especially if you like hyper realism.

I'm pretty much exclusive to racing games. I have owned and modified to the hilt every single car in forza.

I've heard of it and have some friends who played Forza who actually enjoy it quite a bit. I'm just not a big fan of PC gaming. If they had it on the Xbox or Xbox 360, I'd get it in a heartbeat.

What Porsche's do they have in the game?

993 GT2, 996 Turbo, 996 GT3 Cup, all from FIA GT series racing. They also just released a game "GT Legends" which has a bunch of classic cars, including the BMW 2002, '73 RSR, etc. I'm picking that up from Amazon.

What sucks is Porsche won't license their cars to most of these games, so the gamers usually use RUF cars as their Porsche cars. Sucks. This is a big mistake for Porsche as its essentially free marketing for them.

Yeah, you would think they would jump on the "paid by others" promotion of their name and association with fast cars in the minds of young potential future customers. Maybe they're afraid the cars won't be depicted favorably or that the Porsche name will somehow get smeared in some way they won't be able to control, especially through the unpreventable pirating channels. ... Or maybe, like everything else from Porsche, the licensing fee is just too high!
