I disagree that it's too long a throw. I've driven older porsche's and other cars that have had much longer throws that seem much too long without good reason for it. To me, the std shifter on the C2S seems just right and more organic than the times I've driven the short shifter cars.

Once you use the short shifter , You will love it.
I have not experienced any problems with the Porsche short shift unit.
There is maybe just a little more resistance going into first occasionally ,but the rest of the gears are as smooth as the standard . In the bginning ,you almost doubt that you have it already in gear .The throw is that much shorter .
It is GREAT. I highly recommend it .

Just drove them both back to back about an hour ago and IMO the sport shifter is the way to go. I am glad I got it.

Aren't you glad now I insisted that you get it?

The short shifter is all it should be. Funny when I first drove a 997 with standard shift right after driving my 02 996 I thought the standard 997 was short.

Yes, the standard 997 shifter is shorter than the old 996 shifter. That's been documented. I forget by how much - 15%?

i contacted brandy wine and they said that the shifter at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MakeTrack=true is indeed the full short shift kit from porsche that you would order with the car.

it's not the B&M and it's not just the shift level according to them. can anybody confirm/disagree?

thanks!

Well, as you can plainly see , it's just the lever.
When I bought mine beginning of Dec.05, Porsche only sold the short shifter as a complete unit , preassembled .
Maybe they changed ??

If it helps you any, the base and mounting lugs of mine are light blue in color.
Also , the way the lever is mounted to the base is totally different .

Again , I can't attach a picture ( file too big ) if you send me an E-mail, I'll be happy to send you a picture of both the original and the short shifter as it came from Porsche .

hm. looking at the pictures you e-mailed i don't get why you need a new base...

i do see that this one doesn't have the blue parts in it...however.

You will also see that the lever is differently attached to its base (bolted on vs. permanently attached , without a nut holding it in place )
I am just pointing out that the shifter you referenced looks just like the B&M, and not anything like the one from Porsche .

As far as I know, Porsche only sells it's shifter completely assembled in a new housing .That is why it's more expensive than just getting a new lever .

You do NOT need a new housing if you buy the B&M et.al. shifter
Just keep in mind that you cannot remove the shifter from the factory housing unless you literally break the bushings holding it in place in order to install an aftermarket shifter.
