removed the B&M shift kit I installed in my 997 and replaced it with the OEM "Sport" shifter. I did not like the second to third shift...Third seemed like it was to the right of where you want it.
While the OEM sport shifter can be described as "notchy" by some people, I like it and the second to third shift is perfect.
Additionally, the OEM unit comes ready to drop in allowing you to preserve your original OEM shifter box intact. The B&M installation requires you to modify your OEM shifter box (PIA) making a reversal much more difficult should you decide you don't like the setup.

I actually did the same thing on my 996 C4S. I had originally put in the BM, liked it alot. But, I was very concerned about warranty issues with the tranny(non service item=8k), when an oem unit dropped in my lap I jumped at putting it in, shifts well, however, the BM did feel a little sharper while shifting.

Does B&M actually make them both? B&M is a Chatsworth, CA drag race specialty operation. Does Porsche outsource such a primary assembly to a California company? Sounds improbable. Porsche specializes in transmissions and shifters.
You say the B&M and OEM shifters are exactly the same. So why do these two chaps feel such a difference in the shifters? One becomes very accutely sensitive to the way a shifter feels and I would believe they know what they are saying.
Where did you come by your info? Thanks.

This has been discussed at length over at Renntech.org. They are exactly the same - except for the price Yes, B&M, although local to CA, distributes their products worldwide. And they do make the SSK for Porsche.

They are exactly the same, I even posted side by side pics on another forum (6speed). My understanding is that Porsche does outsource alot of stuff, including the Short throw shifter. The only difference in the two is that Porsche uses the plastic bushings and BM the metal ones, that explains the feel issue.

I'm not in agreement on the "exactly the same" position...Please see my photos. That might have been the case on the 996 but not so on the 997...I have personally installed both of them.

The B&M came with instructions...For a 996, which is a little different as far as the removal of interior parts, shift **** (PIA) etc... Not a big deal.
The OEM did not come with instructions...
I would be happy to help any way I can...

You may be right, I've only dealt with the 996 version. The 997 may be different, have to see 'em side by side myself.
As far as adjustments are concerned, do it the oem method, just pop on/off at the shift tower, don't mess with the cables at all. Very easy DIY job.

I'm not trying to push a point...I hope this helps clear things up. I did the installations and took the pictures...It's first hand info.
