If the final pricing does, indeed, come in around 130K it's going to make the 997S very hard to justufy IMO.

Why is that? Unless you think that $40K is not a big difference.

I see a lot of 997S's coming in close to 115K fully optioned (especially if you're looking at the pricey X51). I think that some people (myself include) just might be tempted to skimp on some of the luxury items just to get the turbo which would make the price difference more like 15 K for the base model. Hard to resist for that considerable extra performance.

I'm not feeling the love with the Boxster style rake intakes... really makes it look cheap. It's hard to drop $150K for a car (you know it will be there by the time you add options) and then have to go aftermarket to change the looks... very disappointing.

What if....

Just wondering if too much success could possibly lead a company to believe that nothing that they will ever roll out their assembly line, that wears their venerable badge, that carries their proud heritage could ever fail to be a success?

What if this 997 Turbo is the Edsel of styling for Porsche? What if this is the end of a long string of victories in a row?

If the 997 Turbo falls flat on its face against the competition, expect a major cosmetic redesign the following year. Did they not focus group this design??? If so, it probably wasn’t a sample group of their major market.

With a base price of $130,000, and the competition twice that, that is not likely to happen.

+1. IMHO while the 997 TT lacks the “bangled” factor built into the new BMW’s, it should have been much cleaner. And at the planned price point there are no excuses. Hello Ruf Rt 12 (or slightly used RTurbo for less sticker induced “pucker factor”).

Thanks for the post. Most informative. I'm conflicted over going for the 997tt or a used 996tt. All the '05s are sold apparently. My dealer told me they think the new Turbo will put out about 450 hp, with an X50 option available a little later for 500 hp. Not the same as what C & D says. Guess we'll have to wait for awhile to get more official info. Thanks again.

Every day I like my 997 S Cab more than I did the day before. I think I'll wait for the turbo "S" version before I get all latherer-up to buy another.

I'd get a 996 turbo S with the PCCB. The fact is, this car looks horrible, and with the fact that the 996 will be lightly used and will have taken a hit on values, and the fact that you'll have your pick of options, and that you already have an extensive aftermarket for the car.... It looks to be a much more attractive vehicle.
Again it comes down to styling

I am thinking of the exact opposite.

With the base price of my 997S being 80K and that it looks cleaner than the TT and that its performance is so amazing, I found the TT very hard to justify...
