Default 996 Turbo or 997 C4S

After driving 440 hp TT Nissan's for the past 14 years I'm now in the market for my first Porsche. Not interested in waiting for a new 997TT......dealer(s) say it could be into next year before he and in turn I get a slot.......

The debate centers around me wondering and doubting if I'll be happy with the C4S, from a power standpoint, given what I have been driving. Drove a 997 C4S this last weekend, and while quick, like I told my wife on the way home the race would have been over after second gear in my Z.

So my question to the forum is without ordering a new 997 with the X-51, can a C4S be built to 400+ hp fairily easily......or being a power junkie shall I just find a 05 Turbo S and just bite the bullet?

I look forward to the forums response.

coming from 440TT, you want to get a twin turbo, 997s even with x51 will disappoint you in HP. and it's easier to boost hp on turbo'd cars.

Default Go street racer!

Speed is not everything. You have been driving a Nissan. How fast do you need to go? Is street racing part of your life? Where do you typically race your Nissan? (so I know where not to drive)

Welcome to Porsche. I have my first 997S and this machine is about class and style. 911 has history and elegance that you cannot get from a Datsun (oops I meant Nissan). If you are really looking for speed and acceleration consider the Corvette. Most people that drive Corvettes would be happy to own a porsche if they could afford to. Anyone who test drives a Porsche and can afford one will probably buy it over the vette. Just ask Jay Leno and Seinfeld.

Sorry if that sounds arrogant, but it is how I feel. Slow down and enjoy life. Your family will thank you.

C4s is useless unless you live in the snow......Get the TT, buy a used one and save a ton of cash with a 1-2 yr old TT....

Mod it and up the power to your hearts content....

You will be sorry with the heavy feel of the C4S!

C4S or any porsche isn't in the same league as a nissan, you know that. I'd wait for the TT if I were you. If you do get a C4S and start tracking it, you'll see it has more hp than you'll ever need, and I'm not even talking about a 997!

Uschanpod.....

That is a little arrogant. I'm 58 years old, can certainly afford whatever Porsche I want to buy and understand the panache of the Porsche.....ONE of the reasons I plan to get one. But don't be quite so condesending about the Nissan.......more than one 911, including 993 Turbos, and almost every vette has been surprised by it on the canyon roads around SoCal, PCH to Monterey etc.........

If you call canyon crusing street racing, WHY would you own a Porsche?

HP IS everything.....find a '01 TT for $70k and spend $10 to get 600 hp and find nirvana. The difference between this car and your Nissan will be that you can get every ft-lb to the pavement using the AWD and PSM.

Shark....

You are so right......in almost every string on this forum HP and performance seem to be the topic.....

The AWD and PSM are main reasons why I want to make the change, getting that much hp to the ground in a usable manner is key to going quick.

If you do not want to wait for the 997 Turbo, and since money is no object , get the new Ruf Turbo which has just become available .
It has well over 600 hp and you will never be surprised by another Nissan ,TT or otherwise on the Canyon roads of So. Cal.
And, best of all , you get to drive a PORSCHE .

Happy cruising .

Flat 6 needs dry sump.

Get the Turbo, it's got a real engine with dry sump that PAG races and not a bored out Boxster engine.
