Pardon me for asking but, CAN you even GET svc manuals?
I heard they withold them for as long as possible so amateur guys don't mess around on their own cars and then try to sneak by and get Porsche to pay for their mistakes.

According to his ordering guide, they're not available yet. What they use at the service department are online manuals that they get through PCNA's network. The tech searches and finds the relevant section and either just reads it, if it's short, or prints it out, if it's more involved.
I just emailed my source to find out how he was able to get manuals that are not supposedly available yet.
I'll keep you guys posted when I hear back from him. Bottom line: don't get your hopes up.

Interesting. Check out the pricing.
Now all we need is some techie who can hack into the system. Anybody here wanna give it a crack?

Hey, just bite the bullet and buy one. Them PM your buddies and sell them xerox copies for 50-100 bucks. Too bad for the copyright! It's not like there's a starving writer or musician, or struggling publishing house whose getting robbed. Not like us$500 (or more?) is a fair price, sheesch! If it were $100-200 I, like most guys, would just buy the stuupid thing and be done.

At that price you get a 1 yr subscription that entitles you to free downloads of all documents. Otherwise, you pay $110 per document. And by document, I'm assuming it's the set of instructions for one particular procedure, such as replacing the spark plugs.
Maybe it's best to buy on a as-needed-basis when the need arises.

Last Fall, I bought Set of paper service manuals for the 993. List price was about $900. That was the last paper manuals issued, I believe. CDs should be much cheaper to produce, so, one would think that Porsche should lower the price. Note that Porsche made the parts catalogue available of CD for $15, covering all models, so I would expect the Service Manuals to follow soon.

Was talking to a friend tonight with a SUV Murano? Some Toyota thing? Anyway, he said that his dealership is adsolutely worthless when it comes to helping him out with maintenance tips. Apparently Toyota will let you pay $20 for a day's worth of access as if you're a dealer or service technician where you can download until the cows come home. But then, any future technical service bulletins will be missed.
