Default How long do you plan to keep your 997?

For those who bought the car (not lease), how long do you plan to keep the car? 3? 5? 10? years or as soon as the next 99X comes out? Many of us here (first time Porsche owner me included) have stated that we are going to keep the car for a long time but what is a long time?

I WAS hoping to keep the car ten or so years. I don't put huge mileage on it because I have other cars.

Nowadays, with this car, I've started wondering about all the computerization. There's $2000 (2K!) worth of "modules" just to get my CD to work. In the future will these "modules" be available and will it be worth it?

The other issue? The turbo might just get enticing enough (and the current 355hp puny enough) that I simply must dump the current car in five years.

I never "dumped" any of my previous BMWs for lack of HP or going out of style looks-wise. Kept them for seven to ten years each.

Not sure, other than that I'm not planning to sell soon. Enjoying the car every day, bad or good weather. I hope I can enjoy the car a lot longer, so at least another say 3 to 5 years.

Car had a plastic surgery during the last months when going from USA to Europe. Quiet a lot of small changes:

1. Dutch software settings.

2. Everything is metric now.

3. Significant upgrade on the alarm system (including tilt and GPS)

4. New license plates

5. Side blinkers

Warranty is two years here insted of three, but the good news that you keep at the two years warranty, even though the car is not purchased here. I didn't expect, so am happy with that service.

Lots of positive reaction on the car, even during bad weather

Forever! (But then, I say that about all my Porsches).

This will be my third 911, and fourth Porsche. I generally drive them at least 6 years. I really hope to keep this one at least that long. As we all know, Porsche has a tendency to introduce SOMETHING that coaxes us to go buy another one. With the 993 and 996 I didn't have that urge. With the 997 I decided I had waited enough.

I've had my '82 911SC Targa for over ten years, and am still holding on to it, although I had thought about trading it in. Glad I kept it.

When I was paying for my '06 997S at the dealer, I had asked them about buying an extended warranty. Surprised, the dealer salesman said to me that he had never once sold an extended warranty on a new 911. He brought the finance girl out from the back, and we went over the options. She asked me how long I was planning on holding on to my new car. I said that I had no idea how long, but I WOULD like to have my car under warranty regardless of how long. So I ended up getting the maximum, which is 7-yrs and 100K miles.

I'm glad I bought it. For $3400 extra, I KNOW it is well worth the money, as I've paid lots to keep my 911SC running each year.

Probably 4 years, i.e. about the time the warranty runs out.
That would leave me just 3 years 11 months more fun with this one!

I'd have to say sometime before the warranty runs out.

My first Porsche was a 993 Targa which I thought would keep forever. After owning it for 9 years, the 997S replaced it.
For this 997S, probably 3-4 years, then reward myself with a 997TTS...

Tough to say, but my guess is that the 997 is just the beginning of a revolution in porsche development. I think we're going to all be seriously enticed by multiple models over the next 2-5 years

I'm planning to keep driving it as my daily driver for the next three years, then I will garage it and switch to another daily driver (F-150 King Ranch, or Infiniti M45).

a lot of you guys will only keep the car until the warranty goes out, is it really that hard/ expensive to keep a Porsche after the warranty period expired?

I don't keep my cars beyond the warranty period. In 3+ more years I'll be ready for something new anyway.

When the warranty goes so does the car.

I really like the description of your car. I bet the color combination is beautiful.
