I just ordered my first Porsche Carrera. A new '06 Carrera 4S Black with Fuull Leather Sand interior. I will take delivery next week and probably drive it from the dealership in Texas to Denver.

It has Sport Exhaust, TPMS, Heated Seats, Self Dimming Mirrors, Power Seats, Navigation, High End Bose Sound, Sport Chrono Plus, Porsche Crest, Remote CD Changer. Any thoughts about checking it out at dealership and driving it 1,000 miles versus having it shipped unseen?

Either way, cant wait for my first 911. My wife has an '04 Cayenne.

I would recommend picking up the car in person and driving it back. That's what I did this past June when I bought a car from a dealer in Cincinnati and drove back to NYC, about 700 miles. It's highly unlikely that there's going to be any blemish or mechanical glitch with a new car . . . but one never knows, do one, and you'll get more attention from the selling dealer before he has your check in hand. The second reason is that it's a helluva lot of fun taking a brand new 911 on a long trip and bonding with the machine. And . . . you'll get half way through your break-in period on the way. Just make sure you read the break-in inst ructions in the manual before you take off.

Yep, that is the standard C4s Coupe launch configuration. I've driven one exactly like your car and they are sweet. You'll enjoy it!

Check the weather before you decide. 1000 miles with snow storms or with sanded roads along the way won't be plesant or forgiving on your new Bassalt Black paint job. Remember, this a'int August!

If it were summer, I'd say do it without question.

 

Just remember the 500 mile rule on the tires. (Breakin).

Forgive my ignorance, what's the 500 rule on tires?

 

New tires have a coating on them that is a chemical "release" agent to help the tire separate from the tread mold. This wears off after 300 plus miles (some say 500). Until the time this chemical is worn off, the tires will not grip as well as normal, especially when cornering at speed or during hard breaking. You probably won't notice any difference under "normal" driving conditions. Just don't push the edge of the envelope the first 300 - 500 miles.

 

Car is ready to be picked up. I am flying to Dallas on Saturday to get it and driving the baby home, weather permitting.

Heck, you might as well take it over Red Mountain, Wolf Creek and Vail while you're at it.

Yeah. I am looking for a snowplow attachment for the front to clear the road as I drive along. Specially on I-70 by Vail.

 

I picked up my 2004 C4S cab in Janurary and drove it from Boston to New York, it wasn't snowing but there was still about 2" of snow on my driveway. The only thing I wish the car had winter tires, otherwise it was awesome!!
