Wink Xm Radio

I could not believe it when Porsche did not have the ability to add XM to my radio. I took it to an aftermarket audio shop today and had it installed for 315.00. What a deal. Unit was put in open tray just in front of the shifter. The antenna was put on the back shelf below the rear window without cutting anything. Reception is good. Can you believe Porsche is still not giving us the option of adding Satilite radio. Has anyone else put it in their car?

Big Red..is reception good or great (not that I've been terribly impressed with the reception of satellite radio in my friends' cars).
Also, can U post a pic of the installation?

Big red - I assume you went with an FM modulator? How's the sound quality?

And Coochas, I have XM in my F-150 through a Pioneer AVIC-D1 unit, and reception is excellent. Sound only drops out when I go through long tunnels.

Reception is good. The unit plays thru my existing Bose system. I put the FM on 89.7 and then I can use the remote to tune the XM. Don't have any pictures yet, but installation is attractive. I am particular so it has to look OK for me. Sound is very good and reception is good except when I am under a lot of trees or building. 99% of the time, I get good reception. Call your local audio people and ask if they have put any units in a 997. This guy had and it only took them about 1 to 2 hours to get the job done. I have gotten so use to listening to XM in my other cars, that I could not stand the car without it.

Thanks for the insight. The other day one of our rental cars had it and I was so impressed that we never lost the game during the entire trip! Clearly they were smart to put them into rental cars! That's a lot of good exposure.

Default Nice....

Directv is now broadcasting the XM stations. We have been listening to it at work and it is great.
Lots of stations, a great variety of music.
No commercials.
And no screaming, yelling, shreaking DJ's.
I am going to look at putting it in my 997.

It can't be integrated into the existing stereo system other than using that FM linkage?

Our company designs and builds the satellites for DirecTV and XM radio. I'm not surprised our customers have partnered up. We just launched, two days ago, the most advanced satellite to date for DirecTV. It will beam HDTV to DirecTV customers in the coming months.

OCBen, will your new bird rotate in the atmosphere at a higher 'angle' than the current birds? My problem is that my house is surrounded by trees and, as I write this, I would need a dual LNB dish to gets feeds from two birds. I can get the first higher bird above the tree tops, but the lower bird, which is required for HDTV, is too low on the atmosphere so the trees interfere. My greatest hope to get DirectTV is to either move, which aint happening, or hope the new bird will replace the 'higher' bird such that the 'angle' will be higher than the treetops for HDTV.

Sorry for the vernacular - I am no rocket scientist. My 'expertise' starts when the signal is available in my basement!

Yea! Spaceway F2 Satellite is up!
Sounds like the Beta of F1 is proceeding well in the Detroit area

No surprize to me that XM is on Directv, since they were family at one point under Hughes..

For 1080iAddict.

The Satellites will be in the same general area in the sky.

I don't have it, and I'm not too sure that I want it nor need it.
Just another monthly charge.

I travel the US at least 2x per year and find the scan button to be fine for me..get to hear stations that reflect the color and charactor of the geographic area that I'm in..

Adam, what was that about bird feeders??? .. Just kidding.

Sounds like MJ knows more about the actual orbit and position than I do. Once we engineers design and get these spacecraft built, our work is done.

But it really is an awesome bird. I don't have DirecTV yet. But I might just get it in the new house in about 5 months. We employees get a pretty nice discount that will make it quite attractive to get. My only concern is for high speed internet access. I currently have cable.

MJ, yep, Spaceway F2 is in orbit. Do you also work for the former Hughes company?
