Default Grille Inserts

Has anyone actually purchased and installed the grille inserts available from cargraphics and automotion.com (performanceproducts.com)?

If so, are they 1) easy to install, and 2) are they secure once installed?

I personally would avoid them. The holes in a pattern, any pattern, will create turbulence and significantly reduce air flow. That would mean even though your car stays at operating temp when outdoor temps are moderate, the cooling system has to work much harder with the inserts because of less air-as-coolant is getting thru. IOW, the Aftermarket mfgrs claim no overheating problems but that's because everything Porsche is working harder.

There was a long thread debating the overheating issues about 6+- months ago, maybe on the 996 board. I think Cup cars come with grills (though they undoubtedly have enhanced cooling systems). I'm thinking about getting them too.

The area in front of the radiator is always filled with leaves anyway.

they might cause the slightess of turbulence, but I believe they'll have a big big plus in keeping out all the leaves and other crap mine seems to collect.

$300 for 3 pieces of mesh though... they've seen us coming.

I read that is not an easy install. That they have to remove the front end to install the grill. Is that true? Also, I can't type with that hot avatar babe staring at me and/or my 997s

older post about this but i dont agree about the turbulance bs... air flow is air flow i would trade the "turbulance" for the handfull of leaves and trash that collects deeply in the corners. but i do think 300.. bucks for hardware mesh in anoying to pay...

Let us not forget the real purpose of grill inserts in Racing..to protect the radiators from rubber marbles, they are big and hard, and mark up your car as well.

On the street you are still going to collect debris: sand, gravel, stones since the mesh is large.

Now when you want to clean out the radiator area, disassembly will be required to get to the crud built up in the far corner of the opening...what fun is that?
