Ben, I agree with the economics of what you are saying, but I have always been a little bit leery of wanna-be's, so I probably would have to pass on the Mexico Blue if I couldn't afford the real ceramic brakes.

Just to burst a bunch of bubbles, Porsche will no longer Paint to Sample for over 140 colors that they deem too hard to produce. (That includes Gulf Blue I found out after my order was submitted). They claim that they have significant match problems with all light colored non-metallic paints. Thus, they are not even attempting them. They are constantly adding to that list. So,--keep that in mind as you dream of your next Porsche!

I'm sorry to hear about the color rejection. Gulf Blue would have looked excellent. Maybe Porsche should offer par-baked cars that customers get to have painted after delivery. Just trying to cheer you up.

Isn't that bizarre? For so long Porsche always claimed to "Paint to Sample" (and how many manufacturers will do that!). And then, two months after we got this thing locked up in concrete they come back and say, 'no can do.' I was going for the Gulf for the historical significance of the color, being easier to clean, etc. but have no objective to a darker color (something like my avatar now) but just ticked me off, having to go through it all again!

Thanks.

Dan

I was thinking more of painting the red calipers black, or some other color that would not clash with the blue such as a dark grey. Yeah, I certainly am not one for the pretentious, wanna-be, pretender look, that's for sure. I prefer the understated look.

They are HRE comp wheels. C21's I think. They are the mesh ones. 18/9 and 18/11

A lot of good perspectives here.

Thanks but I wanted recent thoughts/feelings especially since the last post in this thread (prior to yours) was on 12/13/2005.

I want a pastel blue, possibly like Dan's car or Mexico Blue.

having just owned an arctic silver, i would not do that color again. although somewhat synonymous with porsche (silvers) i found it to be bland, a bit cold, and not very exciting to look at. matched with oem wheels it took on a bit of a mono-chromatic look which i didn't care for either. the other bothersome part about silver is that it's on every other car you see nowadays and has probably been the most popular color choice over the past 5 years. they're everywhere! don't get me wrong, silver/black is a great color combo or they wouldn't have produced so many of them. so if i had to choose a color for a new 997 it might be mexico/gulf/riviera blue or an even more fun color like orange. if i couldn't muster the courage to do those colors i might opt for the "warmer" and more exclusive gt silver or your basic black on black.

having said that, if it were 993 it would have to be silver or black.

I'd never stop grinning if I could get a GT3 in International Orange.
