I like that center console in leather. It's too bad that Porsche nickles and dimes you with 16 different leather options: the seating surfaces but not the backs, the backs but not the console, the console but not the dash etc.

Thumbs up

Absolutely stunning!

I, for one, really like the sport design wheels. And I love all of that leather. And the thicker steering wheel really is the way to go.

Since I don't have sport chrono on my X51 I have one question. What sort of difference in throttle response is there between normal and sport mode with the X51? You state that throttle response in normal mode is like that in sport mode for your non-X51. What's it like in sport mode?

Thanks.

That slate is an awsome color. I'm specing out my C4S997 now, think I'll go for the additional leather door finishers/ steering wheel based on your pics!

Congratulations!

What a stunning 997S you've got there! ... Love the color (yes, Slate is an awesome color), love the wheels, love the leather accents, especially the center console. What a beaut! ... If I had to order mine all over again, that's exactly what I would get - less the wart of course.

That's my feeling exactly. A car of this status should not have any plastic bits showing. At least they now have the options available.

Since I don't have sport chrono on my X51 I have one question. What sort of difference in throttle response is there between normal and sport mode with the X51? You state that throttle response in normal mode is like that in sport mode for your non-X51. What's it like in sport mode?

Hi AeroSmith,

I enjoyed reading your X51 posts on rennteam; it got me excited while waiting for my car to get here. Congrats on your car!

The difference between Sport vs Normal is the same proportionally as in the non-X51. Normal on the X51 isn't quite the same as Sport on non-X51. The throttle isn't as sensitive. I actually drive it in the non-sport mode (as I did with the regular 997S). The Sport mode doesn't actually make the motor any faster, but it changes the ratio of throttle-pedal position to throttle-opening. So it feels faster. For example in normal mode if you press the pedal 1/4 way, the throttle opens 1/4. In sport mode, the throttle opens, say 1/2. (I don't know exactly what the specs are.)

The down side is that it makes it harder to modulate the throttle. For example M. Schumacher has his F1 car use a slow thottle mapping, while Barrichello prefers the faster mapping. I assume M.S. prefers the slow mapping to get better control (and we know who is faster).

Btw, the sticker on this car was about $124k... Probably the most expensive 997 to date!

Thanks, Ray.

I guess you can put me in the slower mapping camp, one of the reasons I didn't get Sport Chrono.

You have an enviable Porsche collection. Enjoy in good health.

Here are a few pictures. Note the middle radiator on the X51 cars.

Holy CRAP!, is that ride EPIC! Thanks for the detail pics of the steering wheel, door finishers, and rear center console. Hard to find pics that good showing what those options look like.

While you're out there driving that beauty take a pic or two on some beautiful NW road and post it on the Post Your 997 Photos. We've got to get some worldwide views, too.
