Default Follow Up: My New Ride for Non-997S Days

Last month I asked you guys what I should do for my daily driver for non-997S days. I put a limit of $500 / month. There were lots of replies, so I figured I would report on the final decision.

I went with the 2006 Infiniti QX56. Picking it up tomorrow. I could not find anything in the $500 a month range - lease or buy - that I could get excited about. I dont want this to sound spoiled, but, I need to get some 'utility' out of a car purchase decision - - something to get excited about. After getting a 997S, I was doomed as no vehicle comes close. And this is how it played out in the marketplace as I searched. I yawned alot.

So I went with an SUV that meets the weight class that will allow me to buy the truck and get the accelerated depreciation. This will result in a $11,500 increase in real dollars into my pocket for the 1st year and about $5,000 next year. This offsets the increased price - or should I say - the wife went for it.

Here are some pix from the internet - I am taking delivery tomorrow (my color: black w/ graphite dark grey interior).

http://www.infiniti.com/content/0,,c...-52054,00.html

I will say that the $85,000 Range Rover is unbelievably gorgeous - but thats just not happening 3 months after taking delivery of the 997S. I like the exterior looks of this QX and I can live in peace with the interior. It has power too. I think it will complement the 997S nicely for storms, snow, family trips, etc. Apparently they got all the early kinks out that gave the ride a bad rap list year (a new factory was built and Infinity had QC issues on the 2004 and early 2005 models). I am getting a 2006 so lets hope the problems are gone!

Anyway, thanks for everyone's help. It ended up being between the Audi A6 Sedan lease and the QX buy - - Went with the buy along with the tax benefit. Seemed silly to get a 'sports car sedan' when I have a 997S, and the SUV will be a nice change from the cramped quarters of the 997S.

I will say this...I am done buying cars for a while. Done.

Don't get me wrong, our 997's are our "street" racecars. But once you take it to the track once, that's it. It's all over. The bug gets ya, and it's time to buy something "expendable" for the circuit.

Stay away from the track as long as you can...it's evil I tell you!! Hehehe...the good evil of course. Just damn expensive. But some say it's better than sex...I'll let you be the judge.

Man o' man! ... That sure is a huge truck - a behemoth Adam! That second pic in the gallery shows what looks like the interior of an RV! ... Looks like it can easily seat 9.

You'll have loads of fun detailing that beast! ... Glad you're a happy camper!

Actually, the commercial detailing business in my garage at work will receive the fun detailing that beast!!! My labor is sticking to the 997S. I will, however, provide the detailing business with my products and specs.

It's a great vehicle. We've had a QX56 in my family since February of this year. Very dependable, about 17mpg highway, comfortable, good power. Only one problem - a flaky XM antenna. I think the exterior is fairly ugly, but its qualities outweigh its looks. Enjoy.

It should come with a boat whistle! (I'm joking....okay, only half-joking.)

The Q will be a great road car for the family and for haulin'. Now about that gas mileage...

And in Black - it should look extra mean.

Wasn't the accelerated depreciation for vehicles weighing more than 6K lbs repealed last year?

yes, you can now only expense 25k of a new suv the first year, with a gvw of over 6k.....so the infinity qualifies for 25k dollars...of course , only if it is a business car, and the miles to and from work from home are not deductible

Yes, as of October 21st, 2004. $25,000 in its first year of service. If your business vehicle has a 6 foot bed or longer AND is over 6000 GVWR, you can still deduct up to the full $100,000.

If I install an air matress in the back and sleep in it once a month, can I deduct the entire thing? I am 6'2" - give me a break!!

Ha ha ha ha .... I believe you. Well, your SUV should have no problem pulling the trailer that will carry your 997 to the track.
