Default Viper vs. Porsche at the track

Went out the the spokane raceway to watch people racing eachother on the 2.5 mile road track. I was surpised to see that the Vipers were dominating porsche and not just a little by a little bit. I know the Viper has a V-10 but jeez they are sooo cheezy!

I can't wait to get out there (after a good break-in and pde school) after i take delivery of my 4CS X-51 (thanks to Aerosmith's posts I've sucked it up and taken the additional $16.9K plunge).

X51 only but the X51 does include the sport exhaust.

But the 996 X51 did not include the PSE.

The 997 X51 does include the PSE.

A friend of mine at work keeps telling me that he's going to get a used Viper that will smoke my 911. Looking at the numbers it's hard to disagree with him. Using an analogy I picked up here, I tried to tell him that it's the difference between a Timex and a Patek. He said he'd take the Patek but also take the Viper.

Oh well.

Which Porsches were they dominating? I doubt they would be able to dominate a GT3 or even a well set up 997 C2s.

What ever ground they might gain on the straight, they would lose in the turns.

Last time I checked they weren't dominating their GT class the Vettes were. And of course, Porsche dominates their GT class.

As for the local track argument, the Viper will come nowhere close to dominating the GT3 (or a well set up997S like GT3B said).

All the posts so far talk about a GT3 or well set up 997S. This is assuming we're talking about a stock Viper. What if the Viper was well set up as well?

I'm a Porsche nut, but a Viper is a ridiculously fast car and has WAY more hp than a 997S. Set it up well, and it'll go damn FAST!!!!!!!!

A couple 996S, but one 996 TT and 2 997 2S. I have no idea how they were all set up, but both vipers out there were destroying them in the straight that was about 3/4 mi.

In the turns it was hard to tell pretty much even.

it really is apples to oranges. I just wondered how well a 9974CS with X51 will fair against a stock viper in the straight (not too well I bet).

That may be true, but I wouldn't take a Viper if you gave it to me for free. Well, okay, maybe I would. I'd take it right to the Porsche dealer to trade it in on a 997S.

I'd take the 911 any time, but they can also miss the odd turn:
