Default can suction cups damage my windshield?

I was reading the owners manual for my radar detector and it stated that there is a special finish applied to the inside of some windshields, that can be permanetly damaged by using suction cups. It mentioned that this was common with porsche and to check the owners manual to see if my car would be affected. I looked in the manual but couldn't find anything to ansewer my question. I figured I would ask the gurus! Thanks in advance.

I used a Passport radar detector for years before I installed the SRX, I remember reading the something. Never had an issue.

As I recall, those coated windshields were on Porsches in the late '80's. Very expensive to replace if damaged. The suction cup warnings don't apply to cars of recent vintage.
