Exclamation Oh boy! Hood Latch Pops.

Well, I was cleaning the inside of the rear window when I heard the hood latch pop. Yep, sure enough, the hood had popped.

Maybe I kicked the button by mistake but I'm pretty certain that I didn't. Fortunately there were no errors or system faults upon start up.

Static at work here?

Right now I'm trying to chalk this up to that character adding Porsche quirkiness. Fun stuff.

Hopefully this never happens again.

Funny thing is that last week I washed and waxed the whole car without a hitch.

I apologize in advance if this is too obvious, but did you have your key in your pocket? My dealer-supplied keychain hit the hood release button on the key a few times when I first got my car. After reading about hood latch issues I of course assumed I had a real problem the first couple of times...

I think mine did that a few times when the car was new, then it went away and never happened again. I did not have the infamous electrical gremlin problem with the hood latch. Is it possible the latch isn't broken in and doesn't fully engage until used for a while?? Or maybe I was just bouncing off the walls as usual with the key in my pocket!

You aint kiddin', brother! I pray this is the answer.

You know, I never did clean the inside of the back window in my 996. And now I remember why. It's bloody tight back there.

Same thing happened to me. The hood release button on the key has a hair trigger.

After reading jharrod's post I knew right away that was the probable cause. I was about to post a D'Oh when I saw you say the same thing.

Ha, that's not a bloody tight spot, the back window on a 996/997. Try cleaning the rear window on a Boxster with the roll bars all in the way. You need to be a contortionist to do it right. On a 996/997 it's a pure breeze by comparison. That was one of the first things I really appreciated - how easy it was to clean the rear window!
