Hate adaptive seats -- possible to replace?
I've got the adaptive seats in my Carerra S, and I hate them. When I first bought the car, the 20 minute test drive made me think they were fine. But the more seat time I log, the more I dislike them. I think they are overbolstered, confining, and very uncomfortable -- and awkward to get in and out of for a daily driver....
Talked to my dealer -- asked if I could swap them out for the regular manual adjusting seat, or even the non-adaptive electric seat. The dealer told me it would cost at least $6,000 to order replacement seats, but they wouldn't replace them because they were concerned that the associated wiring would "confuse" the car's computer, and they didn't want to get involved with such an undertaking, or be responsible for it.
Their advice: If you don't like the seats, buy a different car.
Sure that's great for them because they'll make money coming and going.
Anyone out there done any seat swapping in your 997? If so, I'm very anxious to hear the results.
Thanks!

In Chicago I'm sure you can find a premier car upholsterer who can modify, customize, or otherwise add orthopedic fitments to those seats to make them even better than the standard seats you seek.
I have Adaptive SS and found them uncomfortable for a few hundred miles and thought I was gonna have a problem. I'm normal build height and weight, but my outer thighs and a** hurt a bit. Strangely, the discomfort has gradually gone away. I didn't even notice it. No kidding.
So don;t give up on the seats yet is my advice. You can get used to them or eventually get them modified.

I'm serious!
Only a 20 min test drive? and you bought the car from a buddy? Hmmmm.
Log more seat time, sit correctly, let the seats do their work. they are really great seats.
Getting in and out, heck it's a Porsche and go's with the territory, get use to it.
First Oversteer....now seating...perhaps you should just off the car and be done and go back to that American Sportscar-Corvette

Well good morning Mr. Jones... I was waiting for you to add your $.02...
The understeer issue has since been resolved. Turned out it was a tire wear issue. The previous owner is a professional race car driver and managed to wear out the tires in 4,000 miles. New tires on the car now, and the grip is fantastic, and far more predictable at the limit.
As for the seat issue, I have a herniated lumbar disk, and as such am more sensitive to seating position.
And yes, I did keep the Vettes, btw. I don't think it's an "either or" proposition, as you seem to imply.
You're sort of a "glass is half empty" kind of guy, aren't you...

Thanks for the confirmation JFScheck. You're absolutely right from my POV. The seats slowly and almost imperceptibly got more and more comfortable. Crazy!
Seen this on my Motorcycles. Would spend good money on these aftermarket seats, and at first they were firm and uncomfortable (worse than the original seats) but as Corbin and Mustang would tell ya, break them in and then see if your happy. If not they both would refund your money.
Crazy, but they always broke in (usually around 2,000 miles) and once they did they were "da Bomb"!
