Don't be too hasty in selling, before you've had a few mountain drives. There's nothing like a 911 on a mountain road!!
I must agree there is almost no place like Colorado for a Porsche ... it was like they built the car for mountain roads .

I agree with taking it out on a few mountain roads. I've done that a couple of times and the trip was pure pleasure. It sure beats driving on the straight flat roads in FL. Problem is it's my daily driver. When I was in Florida is was a non issue. Here with the sand and gravel on the roads during the winter, even with the clear bra I'm worried about scracthes and dings from the rocks. I'd just hate to look at the car after a winter of driving to find the car beat up from the roads.

A Cayenne S is certainly a viable option. IMHO, the better option would be a used 993 C4. Put a clear bra on the front, a few dollars in your pocket, and a wide smile on your face !!

Sad to you you miss the enjoyment of the car becuase you are worried about scratches . With a clear bra you will be fine and have the car in a place that is sheer bliss when it comes to driving .

CO997: Sorry to read about your predicament. Your car is stunning. Have you considered perhaps getting a beater 4x4 and keeping the 997S? I'm sure you can find a decent one in good running order for about $5K.
Come next Spring and you'll be happy you did!

Best luck!

Colorado = ~320 days sunshine/annually and mild winters on the front range. Road debris can be an issue if your car is the queen of the garage. Otherwise, you can drive the car many days in winter. As suggested, get a beater for commuting. You won't regret it.

I have had my wife read all the responses everyone has written and the pm's I have gotten. She is convinced I'll never let the car go if I keep reading this forum. I have to say you all are sure making an already hard decision damn near impossible.
After all the suggestions here and from some friends I'm giving serious thought to looking for a beater for the really bad days and at least seeing how it works for at least this winter. I made a couple of mountain drives this week and, well, it doesn't get much better then that.
No firm decisions yet but now I'm really starting to waffle...........

Go to a Porsche Dealer and ask him what they will pay you for your car in showroom condition and that should end any of your thoughts of selling your 997. The market for $75K+ used cars is tiny, and most of the tiny market will be looking for very large discounts from what you paid for the car.

i have gone thru much of the same thought process as you over the past 2 months and even gone as far as listing it both here and in that four letter word place across town for a week. i found that the market if i really had to sell it was 76-78ish for a 2005 997S. that's a pretty good hit off the original cost for a low mileage car. you also have to consider, car taxes if you have them, insurance, further depreciation and what i also found useful was figure how much you would have spent if you leased it for a year...you'd probably be out around the same $$$. i figure most of the damage is done from the drive it off the lot hit, so at this point it's a financial issue...do you need the cash or can you hold on to it, enjoy it and just buy something more practical for all around day to day? my problem is everytime i look at it the car just says "don't hate me because i'm beautiful, c'mon drive me hard".
