Would you be very sad, if porsche dont make flat-6 boxer engines, but using V8 or V10 engines in the future carrera models??? i think the boxer in future is dead, cause you cant fit V8 or V10 engines like the boxer, the engines are to big, so they have to fit the engine into the front of the car. thats bader for handling....... i would be interested if porsche can make a V12 engine???

I think they start over again at 901.

BTW, from what I read, Porsche will always make a 6-cylinder boxer of some sort, even after they come out with a V-10/V-8.

They could preceed the model designation with a letter ala mercedes which went from R129 to R230 for their roadster in one generation. MB uses W for their sedans and now that Porsche has an existing SUV and an upcoming sedan in the works they may take this route.

You're right, Peugeot owns the number combination that has "0" in the middle so 901 wouldn't work for model designation to the public, however, we're talking internal number and for that I don't see a problem using 901.
It won't be that though.

Just like the new Cayman is C7S, they might change the internal designation. 911C1 (carrera1, etc.. etc..) or something similar. NC (new carrera), or who knows. I'm sure they got it covered either way.

After 40 years of history, i think their number stands on its own, seperate from 9/11. In the same light, whenever you need police, fire rescue, or medical assistance in the US, you dial 911 on the telephone. That didn't change because it because too sensitive. I doubt it will be a problem.

Just had a thought....if the car is a 911 Carerra regardless of year (well after 1989 or 1984 if "911 Carerra 3.2" is the same as "911 Carerra" for sake of this debate) but just with different trim levels then the 901, 999, or whatever PAG wants to use internal should be fine. Unless of course when the release shop manuals will that internal code (as they currently do) violates copyright law.
