GT3 seats in a 997?
I'm a little over 6'4" and I just did a DE at Mt. Tremblant earlier this week. I found that wearing my helmet forced me to recline my seat and in an uncomfortable position and slouch a bit in the seat otherwise my head was rubbing the headliner. I have the standard heated power seats.
On the drive home I thought about installing GT3 seats to improve the headroom and driving position.
Anybody else do this?
Airbag idiot light deactivation?
Can I retain a sliding seat or does the seat have to be bolted to the floor of the car?
Comments/suggestions welcome.

I read on some other board, maybe the 997 forum on 6speedonline.com or rennteam, that somebody figured out how to turn off the air bag warning lights (for the airbags that are in the 987/997 seat backs) using the PST2 tester, but he didn't elaborate on what they did exactly.

Yes, the 996 GT3 seats with manual sliders will bolt right into a 997. When you buy the GT3 seats they come with everything you need...NO MODIFICATIONS required.
...you will be able to slide the seats all the way back and should fit with your helmet on. I'm 6 ft., fit with my helmet on and have tons of room behind me.
You will get an airbag light in the cluster after removing the factory seats but not to worry you can blow it out with the PST3 tester. Additionally, the GT3 roll bar fits as well...

The only thing left to do is sit in a car with the seats installed and make sure I fit the seat (mainly my shoulders).
Looks like I'm going to have a winter project . . .

Thanks for the compliments guys; I have lost count of the hours out in the garage putting this car together…the only work I didn’t do in my garage was the paint on the aero kit…I left that to an unbelievable paint man named Brian at Auto Elite.
The Brakes…good eye, most people think it’s a 3.8 car. The brakes on my 3.6 (non S) car are 3.8 (S) factory spec in every way. It’s a large project but definitely worth doing if you will be going to the track. If you want to do it correctly you will need to change the master cylinder, front wheel carriers (wider bolt pattern on Big Red calipers) and wheel bearings, rotors, calipers and pads. Additionally, I installed the Techart braided steel brake lines. I can help save you some drama if you tackle this job…
…the parts are about five thousand dollars, can be purchased from Suncoast Motorsports (or any dealer that doesn’t charge retail plus your first born) and will take roughly ten hours to install once I give you some time/drama saving pointers…like the fact that there is a right way and a wrong way to press the wheel bearings. One side of the wheel bearing is orange and one side is black. If you press the bearings in wrong your speed sensors won’t work which creates havoc as that is where the ABS, PSM and PASM get inputs from…nobody at Porsche had a clue, so I figured it out the hard way…
People always ask me why I didn’t just buy a Carrera S…the short answer is I did eventually (I have a white 2006 Carrera S for a daily driver) but the long answer is I built my 3.6 car for DE/track and the way I wanted it. I did each modification as a separate cash project while enjoying Tuner sessions and camaraderie in my garage with my PCA buddies…believe it or not I like my 3.6 car better then my S…obviously its because it’s personalized. The S seems to have better throttle response and is slightly quicker quarter mile style…of course the 3.6 car will drive away from the stock S in the turns.
The 3.6 car has: Bilstein PSS9’s, H&R sway bars, headers, mufflers and 200 cell cats, cold air kit, GIAC flash, OEM aero kit, sport shifter and all of the interior modifications you see…My 3.6 car was an early 2005 car that was pretty much bare bones (came with 19” wheels, xenon lights and PASM) and rang up somewhere in the seventy thousand dollar range new…My S will stay completely stock except for the clear side markers as it is a Porsche lease…3.6 car is paid for!
Please don’t hesitate to ask if you need any help guys…I would be happy to help any way I can especially if you live within driving distance of Virginia Beach, VA...I'm up for a project if you're up for a drive!
…thanks again for the complements.
