Default Wood package

Does anyone here have any one of the interior wood packages? Like Makassar e.g.? I never hear this discussed as an option here but coming from an SL I kind of miss the luxury of that car's interior. The p car is definately a step up in the fun-to-drive department but a step down in terms of luxury appointments.

I have the full light wood on my 02 Cab and I really like it, but there is a severe problem with the clear coat. It is starting to crack on the steering wheel, door storage cover and the dash. I don't think that Porsche did their homework on the longevity or quality of the clear coat, so I hope that they have fixed this since 02. They obviously don't have the experience of MB with this type of interior. However, it is being replace under warranty.

I have heard about problems with the clear coat over the Carbon Fiber as well. The carbon fiber tends to yellow with time (someone suggested that there was no UV protectant in the clearcoat).

Even though this has been an issue, the wood is the look that I wanted with this car and I am still happy with my decision.

Maybe it is because I have not seen too many P-cars with the wood options, but I think the wood looks out pf place on a P-car. To my eye, it really does not seem to "flow" well, or compliment the rest of the interior. However, that is just my opinion.

I have to agree. Wood looks great in an S class benz but for me does not belong in a Porsche. No offense to anyone out there with the wood interior but wood will never find its way into my Porsche.

Yet...the original 911's had a wood strip across the dash and a wood rimmed steering wheel, so it's not without precedent. I personally think it makes the car look too bling and luxo-barge rather than a simple sports car.

Wow. Sounds like I am definitely in the minority. Woodworking is hobby of mine and probably why I find the maple burl veneer so appealing.

My new one won't have wood but this is going to be your car and you should definately get what pleases you.

What's wrong with a small touch of luxury and elegance? Does as 997S go any slower or handle less precisely with exquisitely finished Makassar ebony hardwoods. The irregular reddish-brown streaks imbued in this distinctively dark heartwood lend a dramatic, marble-like texture to every surface it adorns, and complements the rich leather interior accents. I have Makassar wood on a Slate Gray Cab S with Stone Gray top and leather interior.

I don't know why... wood just doesn't seem appropriate for the 911 interiors... looks REALLY out of place...

on a jaguar/bentley/volvo... well that's different type of car... just my 2 cents.

LOL!

Thanks for the comments and pictures. My feeling is that a limited amount of wood would look nice on the steering wheel, shifter, handbrake. I probably wouldn't go for the full wood trim, though. You can also order just the steering wheel in wood/leather. My previous benz came with a leather steering wheel and I changed it to wood and the difference was amazing.

I think you wood accented interior is beautiful, especially with the contrasting leather interior.
