Just changed the wheels on my 997S order to Carrera Sports.
Guys,
I had initially specified the 19" Carrera Classic wheels (option code 405) for my October build 997S.
I just changed the order to specify the 19" Carrera Sport wheels (option code XRR).
I hear they're lighter. They're also wider by a half inch. And instead of 295/30 ZR19s on the back the Carrera Sports come with 305/30 ZR19 size tires.
What do you think? Good change or a waste of $500?

I'm not too crazy about the look, but I would to try my darnest to have them grow on me just for the wider look. Are you sure the 305's will fit the 997S? If you can order it I guess so, huh?

As for the look, they remind me of the 17" wheels on my 996. I'm very fond of those.
My understanding is that they're also the lightest wheels you can get from the factory. So there is a rationale above and beyond aesthetics.

I love the polished lip--just enough bling but not too much.
I also envision a beefed up version of the base 996 17" wheel...should look wicked, esp with 305's in back. Lighter weight alone would be worth the change.
Can't imagine Porsche going to the trouble of tweaking sway bars or anything to tailor C2S for the fatter 305 rubber out back, so can we assume that handling charx are virtually (safely) unaffected? ( current Excellence mag C4S write-up sounds like great care was taken to recalibrate front suspension to compensate for 305 rear tires--of course 4wd a factor, too).

I doubt they do anything to the C2 suspension when these are installed. Do you think 1cm makes that much of a difference?

Interesting. That's the C4S fitment wheel. I've been told by people that know more about the C2S and the necessary offset than me that the 11" wheel is better suited than the 11.5" wheel. I really have no idea, but that's what I've been told. So I stuck with an 11" wide wheel when I got the 20's.

Dont make the mistake I made...paying for the 19's was wrong. I should have kept the 18's for the autocross and then spent the dough on the Champion wheels of choice in 19'.............lightweight and beautiful!

Sorry - but I'm still confused. The wheel above looks more like the GT3 wheel, while the sport design wheel has more spokes. Or is there a new option this year for the wheel you show above? (Your wheel doesn't show up in the online configurator.)
