Very nice Addict.

OCBen, if I remember right, time permitting, and you are not a DJ taking requests, but I think you were going to post some pics also. That decklid shot has me wanting to see more.

Per the Owner's Manual, absolutely NOTHING. No water, no soap, nothing. Apparently, there is a protective coating to repel water and the manual advises not to clean it often to protect the coating (I believe it was like once every 10 washes it suggested - or I had read that somewhere). So far, I have not needed to do anything. I don't even get it wet.

Once it does get dirty (if it gets dirty), I guess I will wash it sparingly and look for advice here prior to doing anything.

p.s. thanks for the pix complements guys.

Thanks for all the great information. Are there any "preferred" brands for microfiber towels? I often see Cobra products for sale online, including Cobra Microfiber Detailing Cloths and Cobra Miracle Towels -- are these any good and what is the difference between the two?

Thanks a bunch for this thread. I've really wanted to try detailing, but it was all so damn confusing until I read here.

OK - n00b question before doing shopping and my first detailing

How long time between waxing again? Once applied correctly, how long time is max you recommend for keeping it shiney?

Well, if you've read the thread and have followed along you should hopefully understand that you only need to polish away the fine scratches every once in a while as they accumulate and become noticeable to you. This could be once a year, twice a year, three times a year – it really depends on how well you protect your car’s finish against picking up fine scratches and how "picky" (some would say ****) you are about the appearance. But as a general rule (if that’s what you’re looking for) I would say at least twice a year.

Now as for waxing, you can wax as often as after every car wash provided it’s a pure wax like a carnauba – there’s no harm in that, since the carnauba coat doesn’t last very long. I like to use a carnauba spray as a detailing spray to spritz after washing. But as a guideline (if you are indeed a newbie) I would say wax after every other car wash. So, if you are washing your car every other week that would mean you are waxing about once a month. Hope that helps.

OCBen

I have a new Artic Silver 997 and have a question for you. Below the tailights on each side of the rear bumper, there appears to be residue from a large sticker of some kind (maybe some protective material coming from the factory). I've washed a couple times and can't seem to get it off. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Any good "Bug and Tar Removal" solvent should do the job. 3M makes a pretty good product called I believe "3M Adhesive and Tar Removal". You might want to try that.

Check that. This is what I had in mind:

OCBen,

the dealer put on PermaPlate for free on my new 06 997S. I got the car two weeks ago. Have not washed it yet.

What is this PermaPlate stuff. Do I need to wax? Should I get it off or leave it on? Is it really going to help protect the paint as they said it would?

Thanks

Gee, sorry to hear they put it on the car without your approval. I've never heard of this product but you might find some answers here: http://www.permaplate.com/Default.asp

It sounds similar to this teflon coating that used to be popular 20 some years ago. It was on my brand new '85 300ZX and I wasn't too happy with it so I polished it completely off. The dealer was saying I wouldn't have to wax anymore with it on. I told him, "But I love to wax!"

Thanks for all the valuable information.

Just a small question regarding Klasse. I understand it's a German product. However I can't find its website (as I want to order it but I can't find a webshop in central Europe, I thought that the producer itself might have a list of dealers).

TIA
