Hi, I'm seroiusly electronically challenged. I would like to add satellite radio to my '05 997, without hard wiring it. Any good options? Do any portables come with built-in antenna's etc.?

Any good stereo installation shop can add an XM or Sirius; however, it's connected via wireless fm modulation and not great sound quality. Just doesn't have the dynamic range of a cd or even basic fm but it does have all the stations without commercials, etc. Kinda' sounds like your favorite songs on am radio-ok if you're not an audiphile or even into music much- background music while talking to your wife and it's ok...

I still cant believe that sat radio is not an option in the new 997s. The Germans really blew it with this. I can't stand the tacky looking add-ons and PSM integration would have been a no brainer for Porsche. Big mistake!!!!!

Simple - Buy the portable XM to go - the antenna is a magnet that goes on the roof, I let it sit on the back of the rear console, it lasts quite a while without plugging it into the outlets so there is only the antenna wire. It has a bulit in modulator that works pretty well.
Built in to the PCM whould would be nice though

You stick a magnet on your roof? tisk tisk. Come check out my buddy's 996 after 1 year of that XM magnet near his tail light and I will show you scratches that would give you detailers a heart attack.

Porsche's been pretty late to the party on "luxo items" like decent navigation, cup holders, and satellite radio - prefering instead to focus on performance. I'm actually okay with that. In fact I'd much rather Porsche keep the emphasis on the "go stuff" and leave the comfort items to Lexus, et al.
Porsche will catch up to satellite radio in short order. They may be (wisely) waiting for the two competing companies to evolve into one, which most industry analysts agree is going to happen out of necessity.

I tried XM briefly but canceled. Some guy coming on every half hour and telling me, "you're listening to XM radio" was of no interest. Plus the jazz selection sucked
