Default Lifting Points

This should be a short thread, maybe one or two posts. Nothing exciting, nothing controversial, nothing humorous. Should be cut & dried, open & shut.

But does anyone know where on the 997 there might be a centrally located lifting point where a hydraulic floor jack can be used for lifting either end of the car and supporting that end with jack stands at the designated lift points that the manual points out?

OK.. I deleted my smart-arese remark! You wanted a serious answer. I would stay away from a central lift point in front or in back only because in an abundance of caution, your car theoretically could tip if someone were to lean against it (when you are not there to prevent anyone from touching it of course). I suppose this is to clean/wax the wheels and save a step? I would keep the extra safety step of lifting one wheel at a time.

Uh ... Not only were you too quick to offer a smart-*** remark initially, but you failed to read my post, or at least understand it!

I said lifting with a floor jack in order to support with jack stands.

Opps. Sorry dude. I had felt guilty that you gave me the great polish advice after I initially posted. I see what you are trying to do now. I don't have my ride here with me right now but if I did I would climb under, get dirty, and look for suitable ideas. I will look when I get home and search the net on my next late night surf session.

Nahhh, don't worry about it. No need to trouble yourself to that extent. Somebody here surely knows. Good thing you replied when you did, 'cuz I was about to edit my last post and say something like: "Only an idiot would think of supporting a car with just a floor jack! Interesting that it crossed your mind."

But as you can see I refrained from such inflamatory remarks.

Did this thread get Off Topic already without my getting an answer?

OCBen,

I did a search for you and came up with this discussion thread. It's the exact same discussion in a 996 Turbo / GT2 discussion forum, but it might steer you in a good direction....

I owed you. I hijacked your thread and had too many smart *** remarks in a row. BTW, got my membership card for Rennlist today - but they did not update my membership status for posts yet. You made them $17.00!!

Jenn is the one who takes care of that, at least she was the one who did it for me. Did you PM her about it?

17 bucks! ... That'll barely get you 5 gallons of premium gas over here!
