The dealer replaced my horn(s) at my 24-month service. Only one was working, making for an extremely "wimpy" honk.
Service tech said the 997 horns have not been "reliable." I think only one of mine was working from Day One.
Hey, I didn't buy the car for the horn.

When I took my car in for service (oil change and such) the dealer informed me that my horn was weak and needed to be replaced.
I also never honked it and did not mention anything to the dealer.
I would guess that there must be some tech bulletin on this.

Mine (996) is original and sounds just fine. Loud and urgent. Others notice it and that's good enough for me as I use it often to wake up the many morons wandering off-lane, while on the cell phone, reading books, or texting.

Mine have been replaced three times. Each time, one of the horns wouldn't work, resulting in a single, weak tone. My latest iteration features a raspy sound along with the regular tones, but since they make the basic tones, I've stopped caring. No point in making a special trip out to the dealer to get these replaced ...

I had the compact air horn installed on my Boxster and liked it so much that I had another installed when I purchased my 997. There is no comparison to a regular 997 horn, it blows it away. It certainly gets someone's attention, as designed, yet doesn't sound like the Dukes of Hazzard. I highly recommend the Griot's compact Italian air horn.

Is the delay noticeable now that the tubings are eliminated?
