Hello everyone. I am really trying to decide between a 94 Turbo or an 05 997 S. I realize the maintenance would or could be terrible on the 94 car, but the body style is unbelievable. I like the look of the 997 S as long as I don't look at the 94 body style. Does anyone know how the two would compare performance wise? Does anyone have any advice for me on this dilemma? Thank you and I appreciate your input.

Ironically, I own a 2005 997 S and this past Saturday had the opportunity to drive a 1994 911 Turbo. I have always loved the 964 3.6 Turbos and was excited to have the opportuinity to drive one. This one had 36,000 miles and was in excellent condition. Asking price BTW was $69,500. All I can say is that the Turbo was all that I thought it would be. You give it the gas, it starts to accelerate quickly, and then around 3800 RPM, KABOOM, that turbo hits and it takes off like a rocket. The force is incredible. I would not recommend hitting that boost in a corner or your rear end will be your front end very quickly.
In comparing the the 997 S, it is difficult to quantify a power difference. Where the turbo is explosive on boost, it does have some lag. So spooling up is a little slow. The 997 S with the 3.8 L engine has bottom end torque. You give it the gas and it just goes. Obviously, the 997 is much more refined hands down. If it is a daily driver, the 997 would be much better to live with on a daily basis. The turbo's A/C was marginal at best, the ride is harsh, and the car is loud. Of course, those are the attributes that some people buy these cars for, raw and unadulterated performance.
In the end, I got back in my 997 S and was very happy with it still. The turbo didn't ruin it for me. However, I would love to own both.
If you are buying a toy, seriously consider the 964 Turbo. If you are buying daily transport consider the 997 S. I hope that helps. Either way you can't lose, they are both awesome!!!

94 s is a fantastic car little more "raw" but the car is a solid car. I had a 89 Turbo the car was very fast and very reliable ... but a daily driver i would look into a 997s ....
BUT tough to beat the body style of the 94

agree u will loose less money on the 3.6 turbo due rarity - i wanted one instead of the 997 but we have and only need 1 car so it needs to be reliable plus i dont like the idea of my wife in the wet on a roundabout with boost kicking in. the 3.6 for me is the best looking of the 911 shapes but i grew up in the 80's to fat wheel arches and twin exhausts do it for me.

What do you want to do with the car? If you consider daily commuting, taking your wife to dinner, or driving in rain, the 997 is a better choice. Many fewer stops for service, many years of warranty, much more comfortable, much better interior etc. If you just want it for 800 miles a year, stop thinking, and just buy what you want. If you put miles on the 964, it will depreciate rapidly. Think about how much you'd pay for that car with 80,000 miles. AS
