Really stupid question.
I got a radar detector for my 997 - a simple windshield mount. In the booklet that came with it, it said that some Porsches have windshields with vinyl - anti shatter guard, an can be ruined with suction cups.
Any ideas about a 997 windshield. I have to keep the cops off my ***. If I want to get anywhere fast, I take the family car. In the 997, I get tickets just for looking fast. TIA

Some earlier Porsches had a coating that could be damaged...you need not worry.
Remember, a radar detector in only a tool but not a substitute for situational awareness.
Hope you got a V1

I've had my Passport 8500 blue X51 mounted to the right side of my rear view mirror via suction cups since last December and no marks or problems to report. Hardwired it to the fusebox and tucked the wires gently up into the headliner with a credit card . Took 15 minutes tops, tapping off the optional rear wiper fuse terminal (car doesn't have that option installed) so the radar turns off when the cars ignition is off.
Jonquiljo, I totally agree with your comment and coming from an 02 M3 / 97 C5 Vette, I can tell you that for some reason this car catches a cops attention more than the previous ones. You would think Arctic Silver wouldn't stand out as much as the red C5 vette but just not so. A radar detector will not prevent every ticket and common sense is your best friend. With that said there is NO way on earth that I would be ticket free for 8 years now without one (I know today will be the day I get one) but buy the best detector out there (Val one / Passport/ and one or 2 other brands did very well so see the other thread on testing results posted recently). If you must know the direction of the signal then the Val one unit is for you + if Europes Ku signal comes to the USA the Val one will pick it up right out of the box where as the Passport will need to be sent back to the company for the upgrade. I only have experience with Passport and cannot compare anything else. Here in CA. Ka signals are the ones you need to watch for and Passport did well in that catagory so thats important to me. Moneybiz, you think Ca. have tons of Porsches? Well your right and Marin County in the SF Bay Area is Porsche capitol of the world. 911's ARE a dime a dozen, incredible!
The only problem is that its difficult to keep this car at 65 -70 mph on a freeway without engaging cruise control as an increase of 10 to 15 mph over the posted limit will get you pulled over and I for one cannot tell the difference between cruising at 65 / 75 or even 80mph. Cheers.

Gradyex,
I totally agree with you. I'm verrrry middle aged, and still get tons of crap from local cops in my 997. I live in Marin (SF) also.
I really drive the family car if I want to get anywhere in a hurry. Porsches may be a dime a dozen, but it seem the cops have a real hard-on for them. I just don't understand it. Some kid in a low-rider goes by me at 90 MPH, and I get the ticket for going 5MPH over the limit.
