What do you think ...standard seats or adaptive sport ?
I was more than satisfied with the 996 seats.
what would you choose for the 997s ?

I seem to recall that in the 997 997s brochure Porsche made a point to emphasize that the 997 seats are a great improvement over "previous models." READ: no more problems with sport seats hurting your shoulders as in 996 and 986.

Go try them both by getting a decent hour long test drive in each type of seat. Then come back and tell us which you prefered. As we're all different shapes any advice is purely personal and entirely dependent on how your personal shape fits each type of seat. Let YOUR as* be the judge!

I don't like the pinched sholder feel of the sports seats I tried in the showroom. Of course that's just me. But the regular seats feel great to me. Wider than the 996 seats and sturdier feeling.

Personally I love the Sports seats. So comfortable and supportive and so little extra money. Have had a 997 S Coupe with Standard seats and a 997 S Cab with Sports seats.

This seat thing IS curious. Every BMW I've had I got the most heavily bolstered seat the offered. EVERY one of them was immediately comfortable.
Now the 996 Sport seat comes along and there's problems with them. Everybody warns,"make sure you try them out before buying."
What's Porsche (and others/) doing that's different from BMW? Is it typical for "exotic" cars that the buyer should try the seats out before buyng them?
As I said, it seems Porsche has proudly improved the 997 sport seats since the 996 sport seats were problematic for lots of people.

your size can make the decision for you in some cases I was very uncomfortable in the sport seats.
I felt like I was being pushed out of them, my back wasn't touching in the middle unless I pulled my shoulder blades together. If you have broad shoulders forget the sport seats.

Guys my size (44L 6'1" 195lbs) and bigger seem to have good luck with the new 997 Sport seats.

First let me say that I'm a sport seat person. All of my Porsches and BMWs have had them (including the real Recaros offered by both manufacturers back in the '70s and '80s). However, we've got the standard seats with full power/lumbar in the 997 and they're fantastic. Better than the 'adaptive' seats in the M3. At the LA Auto Show they had a 997 with manual sport seats near a Boxster with standard seats, and with the exception of slightly more shoulder support, going back and forth I couldn't tell the difference. Bottom line: The sport seat option has become redundant, IMO.
