Yes it can be installed after at the dealer, but it is a major job and if you want it I would wait until it is available as an option. I almost had the kit installed on my 02 996 but decided against it. The cost for labor on my 996 was about 3K.

the X51 Powerkit feature increases output of the 3.8-liter, flat-six cylinder Carrera S engine from 355 to 381 horsepower and peak torque from 295 to 306 ft. lbs., making it the most powerful non-turbocharged engine yet offered in a Porsche 911 production car for North America. Distinguished by its carbon fiber air cleaner housing, the X51 Powerkit boosts performance through a series of engine enhancements including a larger throttle body, optimized intake airflow, cylinder heads and exhaust manifold modifications, changes in the control unit, and the inclusion of a sport exhaust system. The result produces a 0 to 60 mph time of a quick 4.4 seconds and a top track speed of an impressive 186 mph.

Anyone have an idea when we will know if the x51 package will be an available option. Now that 06 base prices are out has anyone seen the 06 U.S. order guide?
TIA

I agree with jumper...make 381 hp standard on the S...or better yet make the 997s with x51 hp the standard 911. Then the 911 would destroy just about everything remotely similar in price. Yet another example of Porsche upselling us for $$$$$$$$$$$.

The problem with the X51 package is that it adds no " $ value" to the car.
Based upon X50 and X51 996s trade-ins there was no dealer allowance for this option. That makes it very, very expensive. I enjoyed the X51 package, but had I known it added no value, I would have lived without it.

Agree with Colm. If X51 bought car needs to be a keeper because you will never see the money again. I for one would pay for it if available but plan on keeping car at least 5 years.

I do not think the 996 X51 will work on a 997. Specifically built for 02 or newer 996 with 6 speed. There is one available in the states that was ordered for a customer and never picked up. The dealer stocked it unbelievable for a$8500. list part. I think it was Hoehn in the Bay area of CA that had it. If interested PM me and I will see if I can find my notes I almost bought it from them.
