Default 997S coming, keeping M3, trading the 986S

I don't want to have too many cars so I "decided" to trade in the 2003 BoxsterS for the 06 997S when it arrives in Aug or Sept.

Why? Because the M3 has SMG which is nice when you don't want to drive the Carrera's stick.

M3 has bi-level heat/AC which is more civilized than Porsche's. Good for long trips with passengers and luggage

M3 has lots of HP (333hp), the BoxsterS has barely enough, at 258, to make it interesting when power is required.

Will miss the convertible BUT, it's a small neighborhood/town and I don't really like to be noticed by every one who passes by. The 997S should be very low-key (yeah right!!!! LOL )

I might still keep the 03 986S, and make room for it, but I dunno.

Any other good reasons for or against would be fun and interesting to hear. Thanks!

I hear ya-- Im going for the civilized low-key approach as well. I should have my m3 convertible by next week to soften my image from the lean mean gritty porsche look.

I made the decision today, traded the M3 for a 997s. Someone backed out of their order and I jumped in. July build August delivery for a 06 car. And no price increase? The prices we agreed on were 05 prices.

I would do the same thing, with as extra option totally black windows on both the M3 and the 911, so that everybody knows that you should be in, but can't see you..........................

Isn't that our universal problem? Buying a new car but don't want to get rid of the old one, which has absolutely nothing wrong with it. Everytime I want to buy a new car, what to do with the old one is always the biggest question. Even if there is enough garage spaces, there is just no time to use all of them. And then there is insurance, maintenance, etc...
My current dilemma is whether or not to keep a 1996 993 Targa. I want to buy a 997TT next year.....
Other cars in garage are Cayenne S and soon-to-arrives BMW 530xi.
Sorry for going off-topic.

Not for me, at least this time. I really did not care for the M3. Everyone had built it up so much in my mind, but after driving it for a while, it just seemed like a fast BMW. No sex appeal like a P car, esp. the 997. The 997 is sooo much more of a car, if I kept the M3 I would never drive it, and I already hardly have time to drive the car. No regretes yet, other than spending 90K on myself.

Interesting. I have an 00 M5 and a 99 996. I like them both, but if I had to part with one, it would be the Porsche, and it's safe to say that I am a Porsche guy. The M5 has 50k miles, the Porsche has 15k, which should say something about the one I am most likely to drive. It may be my imagination, but the M5 seems to have better acceleration.

The M5 prob. does compared the the 996, but have you driven a 997s? Totally dif. car than the 996. Porsche really made hugh leaps with this new car. I drove the M5 b4 getting the M3 and even though the numbers say it is as fast as the M3, to me it felt slow due to its large size. Thats my .02 for what its worth. Go drive the 997s, you will want one. I did.
