Trying to get away from Silver, Gray, White, and Black about all that is left is Lapis and Carmon. I'm keeping Guards Red and Speed Yellow in the background for now. I also like the new Sea Blue interior color. I would guess that both of these colors, Carmon and Lapis are mostly sold with Black or Gray interiors. Just for grins I built them both with Sea Blue, different all right but not entirely bad IMO. Anyone with these colors that have interiors other than Black or Gray? Honest alcohol isn’t a factor here.

 

Have you considered Midnite Blue? Nice color probably look good with the interior you like.

 

I've seen Sea Blue in person and its actually grey with a hint of blue only in very bright sunlight. Any other lighting condition and its grey.

I have not seen the color in real time.
I know Carmon isn't a very popular color but I like it and finding an interior color that I really like will make the difference. If I can't do that than I work with Lapis. Believe it of not I am enjoying this

Thanks Alin2, those pics are great. The carpet looks light does it collect footprints as bad as silver or gray? My BMW carpet is gray and loves to collect footprints.

IMHO, the "silver is too common" logic is silly. The reason there's alot of silver is that the aesthetics of the car, the reason we find it so drop-dead gorgeous are best shown in silver. All design studio clay models are always silver: shows the sculptural features of the car best.

The "silver is too common" logic is silly because when a beautiful woman wearing jeans passes by you don't complain that her jeans are always blue!

IMHO, the car is too beautiful to choose the color based on your personal preference of your favorite color.

I wish frickin' Porsche would offer some silver alternatives, some TINTS to silver. IOW, the same brightness value but warmer versions of silver.

Oh, I forgot to pitch in another $.02. IMHO the interior of the car is extremely bizzy! There's alot of lines and shapes and stuff in there! The best way to downplay this bizziness is to get black interior. (Actually it's a dark dark grey). If the bizziness bothers you get black. If the aesthetics of the exterior are important to you get silver.

 

Not bad, but not great in terms of hiding dirt. I have to vacuum weekly.

I was thinking of a "champagne" tint to silver. They had "meridian metallic" for the Boxster in 03(?), was a warmer rich tone, but dropped it.

 

I have a Carmon Red with black interior. Alternatives for the interior for me would be beige or a mid tone blue.

Another alternative I looked at was Basalt Black on burgundy red leather. Special order for 911, but available for M3.

I hope Carmon Red will stay a rare species. I have to say at the end of the day that each 911, independent of the color makes my head turn

GR8330 - I am TOTALLY with you on this one! When I was looking for a 996 on the web, it seemed like 60% or more of the cars listed were Silver, Gray, or Black. I have never liked Black cars, period. While I have nothing against Silver or Gray cars, most of them have Black interiors, which I don't like because it is too dull and too dark, which minimizes the texture changes and subtle details of the interior. This observation is supported by MMD's comments:
As far as choosing a color, get what you like. MMD seems to be saying you shouldn't get a color you like, you should get Silver and LIKE IT! Quite presumptuous, IMO!

When I was looking for my P-car, Midnight Blue was my first choice, but I couldn't find one optioned the way I wanted. So I "settled" for Lapis Blue, which I really like. I get a lot of compliments about the color, because it has a lively, moderately electric hue.

Midnight Blue is deep and rich looking in person. Midnight Blue with Sand Beige interior is great color combo, IMO. Check this thread...

I have seen Carmine Red with a Sand Beige interior and that is also a very good combination.

Get the color you like and will enjoy! If YOU like it, that is all that matters! After all... it's a P-car and what’s not to like?

Lemme re-state. If you took a gorgeous abstract sculpture like a Brancusi it would be best appreciated in light to middle grey ("silver") tones.

In the genre classical sculpture you'll always see natural stone colors and tones. Sometimes black, but mostly whites and greys ("silver").

These tones show off volumes, texture, shape, lines to the max.

To choose a color based on something arbitrary like personal preference for Cobalt Blue, or Burgandy is fine for sure. But keep in mind that you're demphasizing the sculptural qualities of a very unique (i.e. uncommonly beautiful) car by doing so.

By contrast, I think it's impossible to question the validity of choosing a minivan or SUV color on the basis of personal favorites.
