Lemme re-state. If you took a gorgeous abstract sculpture like a Brancusi it would be best appreciated in light to middle grey ("silver") tones.

In the genre classical sculpture you'll always see natural stone colors and tones. Sometimes black, but mostly whites and greys ("silver").

These tones show off volumes, texture, shape, lines to the max.

To choose a color based on something arbitrary like personal preference for Cobalt Blue, or Burgandy is fine for sure. But keep in mind that you're demphasizing the sculptural qualities of a very unique (i.e. uncommonly beautiful) car by doing so.

By contrast, I think it's impossible to question the validity of choosing a minivan or SUV color on the basis of personal favorites.

MMD - Thanks for the reply. This additional information gives me a better idea of the context and perspective of your earlier "favorite color" comment. Now I feel like Don Quixote, fighting the "dragon," only to find out later is was a windmill! I think I over reacted... sorry about that!

I totally agree that lighter colors will "reveal" the shape, contours, and subtle design lines much more than darker colors. And, GREAT point about the minivan or SUV... who cares what color they are... because IMO, they're all Butt Ugly! (flame suit ON) It's all good!

Nah, no problem. On matters of personal opinion or speculation it's good for people to clarify what they mean if someone is unclear or uneasy about what they said; it works both ways.

Not so quick on the color of classic sculptures. Don't forget, from Egypt to Rome to Greece the sculptures were often painted.

If you don't like any of the colors, you could pay to have Porsche Exclusive paint it for you any color that you like.

While I have nothing against Silver or Gray cars, most of them have Black interiors, which I don't like because it is too dull and too dark, which minimizes the texture changes and subtle details of the interior. This observation is supported by MMD's comments:

As far as choosing a color, get what you like.
MMD seems to be saying you shouldn't get a color you like, you should get Silver and LIKE IT! Quite presumptuous, IMO!

When I was looking for my P-car, Midnight Blue was my first choice, but I couldn't find one optioned the way I wanted. So I "settled" for Lapis Blue, which I really like. I get a lot of compliments about the color, because it has a lively, moderately electric hue.

Midnight Blue is deep and rich looking in person. Midnight Blue with Sand Beige interior is great color combo, IMO. Check this thread...

Here is another, more recent, Midnight Blue post which has GREAT exterior pics, but no interior pics.

I have seen Carmine Red with a Sand Beige interior and that is also a very good combination.

Get the color you like and will enjoy! If YOU like it, that is all that matters! After all... it's a P-car and what’s not to like?

Thanks Tim for the pics, Midnight Blue is nice looking. I have seen so many Dodge, Ford, and Chevrolet trucks in a Maroon color lately, usually dirty, that I'm starting to wonder away from Carmon Red.

Midnight Blue over Sea blue here. Love it. I think they go better together than any other two colors.

I'm not sure any color has a monopoly on beauty.

In my opinion, the only reason the silver tones look better is because they match the color and tone of the rims better than any other color.

It's not that I dont like any of the colors I'm just trying to find something different this time. When I started the choice was between Guards Red and Speed Yellow. I've just had a few people tell me to stay away from a stand out color unless I stay at the speed limit all the time. In the end I will chose the color I want. With a late Dec/early Jan delivery I have to much time on my hands.

I personally like subdued colors for cars hence I usually buy some color variation of silver, grey black or dark blue metallic. last cars I've owned in sequence:

1999 996 C2 artic silver
2001 BMW Z3 metalic black
1996 993 C4S Black
2003 Mini Cooper S artic silver
2005 Lotus Elise Nightfall Blue ( very dark blue )
on order 2006 997 C2S Black

with that said, I personally am not crazy about red on Pcars ( somehow that color seems reserved for the Fcar I might someday have the ***** to buy ) but speed yellow as almost a color I picked for the 997S. All of the pictures I see of Speedd Yellow P cars make the car look great! at the end of the day make sure you get the color you like!

I think both Speed Yellow and Guards Red look fantastic on the 997.

Doug - After you complete the detailing of your car, you have to post pics, both inside and out. I have NEVER seen the Midnight Blue and the Sea Blue combo, either in person or in pics. Need pics with the doors open, too.

Yeah, I really liked GTS when I saw it up close in the showroom. Unfortunately I'm not gonna get many opportunities to notice how those enlarged sparkles translate in all sorts of different ambient lighting situations but I bet it IS a trip for the owners!
