I have just speced by 4S but I am unsure that I have done the right thing by choosing Sports Chrono so I need your input.
As I understand it without Sports Chrono there is a seperate button to activate Sports exhaust whereas with Sports Chrono the PSE is activated by the Sports button which also kicks in the hard suspension setting and quicker throttle response. Well I don't like the firmer setting on the PASM so does this mean that I can't have the PSE sound without the hard suspension setting if I go for the Sports Chrono??????? and if so how do you lot feel about this????
Also with the Sports Chrono is there no seperate PASM button???????

Currently own a 997S Cab (without PSE or Sports Chrono)
Are we becoming to fancy when we have to select an electronic button and/or mode to get just the right tone on our exhaust? A Porsche should sound good all the time, suspension firm and compliant all the time, few electronic aids, no need for fancy radios because the driving experience is predominate, and has no park assist because our cars are small sports cars.
Looks to me like were rapidly heading into GT country, aka Lexur SC430, and away from lightweight sports cars that Porsche was founded upon.
The option sheet on our new Porsche's looks more like a Cadillac or Lincoln than a Sports Car.
When will Porsche start offering air conditioned seats like my wife's Lexus LS430, power rear window shades, laser radar control, adaptive variable air suspension, power door closers, seat massager systems, etc.
Pursuader - Did your dealer show you the actual spec sheet or are you basing your options on the 997S? I was under the impression that the 4/4S spec sheets were not yet available.
I can see how park assist is hand in Europe, very tight in Europe. The dual nature of the sport exhaust is to pass very very strict noise limits also in some parts of Europe. You guys in the US are just thinking that Porsche only makes cars for the US, but they have to satisfy lots of markets.
Anyway, at the prices Porsche competes in, all cars have those luxury features you listed. So its natural to offer them (as an option) for cross shoppers. Over at rennlist there is an ample thread on the lack of availability of an MP3 player (although rectified after May builds), so people do miss "modern" conveniences.
Yes Full Spec for carrera 4/4s was on the Porsche dealers intranet system including the new wheel option, which he showed me and I chose spec off that.

Parking sensors is a bit of a must in England, space is so tight, why risk knocking car especially when my wife drives my cars sometimes. Not everyone wants to drive their Porsche like a race car 100% of the time i.e no decent music sound and rock hard suspension, hense why myself and many others welcome the option facility: that is why they are optional. I would certainly not want any of the silly daft extras you mention but am pleased that I have chosen what is essential to make it an all purpose car.

The answer to your question is that you simply turn "Sport" mode on, then hit the "PASM" button to return to normal suspension. This is how many of us drive on a daily basis. If I find myself on a smooth twisty road I set PASM to stiff (Sport) again as I like the way the car feels with it on. I would leave it on all the time but I have some fillings in my teeth that i'd rather keep.

You're right. According to the folks I have spoken with who are in the know (or claim to be), the 911 will become the executive car (probably eventually with most of the options you describe ) and the "sports car" role will be filled by the Cayman. It seems like this is already happening so it's not too hard to guess what's coming next.
