Transferring Out your Lease
I wonder how many of you have gotten out of your lease (that is, by having someone else take over your lease, not by paying it off).
Has it been easy to do? I know that there are web sites that specialize in buying/selling leases (swapalease.com comes to mind), but I have seen cars there for months and months. So can you share your experience? Thanks!

If you do a search, there are some very detailed threads here - search in the 996 forum.
It's doable (and I did it once), but its time consuming and a hassle. If you try, suggest you include a handsome incentive to attract potential takers.

I was able to get out of the lease on my Boxster under the Servicemen's Civil Relief Act. I was getting transferred overseas for two years. I called my lease company and explained the situation. They sent me some paperwork, and a few weeks later they sent a truck to pick up the car. No fees. No hassles. Of course you have to be in the military and get transferred overseas for at least six months.
I had listed my Boxster on swapalease.com and had a few hits. Good luck.

I have been leasing for many years. Most banks/leasing companies, etc. will let you transfer your lease....but you will still be responsible if the new person defaults. Think about it, they have no reason to let you out in the case of default.
